    Help me decide next HG

    1. Sig mosquito $369 http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=88&t=400725

    2. Sig 225 $380 http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=88&t=436129

    3. Beretta M9 $500 http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/23505

    4. HK USP 9 full size $645 cdnn

I'm looking for something to hone my shooting skills without breaking the bank feeding it. 9mm is still relatively cheap at $.13 rd. Option #1 is cheapest overall but the reviews have been mixed. For option #2 I might be getting a 226 if my brother finally decides to sell it to me so I'm on the fence for the sig. I like the beretta but I haven't seen them for $400 like Aims did a couple of months back. I'll probably wait for a deal. The Hk would put me in a little dept but I've been wanting one for ages. I even have the surefire light for it sitting in my safe for the past year haha. Finally I could just get a Marvel 22 kit for my RI 1911 and call it a day.

If you don't own a 22 handgun already, then that's where you need to be going.

I have many different 22 handguns, both autos and revolvers.
I just bought a 1951 High Standard Sportking in roughly 95% condition for $150 because it was too good of a deal to pass up.
Bluebook on this is around $300.

Even a good used Ruger for around $150 to $200 would be a good plinking and practice piece.

I have been shooting the steel challenge match every couple months with my Smith & Wesson model 41.
Now THAT is a nice 22, but more expensive than most other 22's for sure.

        Honing shooting skills...

I am a bit off the direction you are going, but for honing your hand gun shooting skills, I would suggest a DA revolver, maybe in .22 to save some training cost. The DA action really helped me master trigger control like no other gun could.

Don't even need a holster if you shoot it with a 22.
You will need at least 4 mags though.

The 225 hands down. I have 2 of these P6 surplus pistols, and even the roughest looking one has pristine internals. Both of mine are ridiculously accurate, perfect for carry, fit excellent in the hand and are stone cold reliable.

Get one of these, shoot it, then send it to here for refinishing...

Once you think you've gotten good, send it here for action work...

Do that and you'll have one of the best 9mm pistols money can buy. Go to sigforum.com for pics of CCR's work and reviews on a grayguns trigger job. You won't be sorry.

My dad bought that beretta but in .40 cal from that same site, i love it it's light and accurate. The only thing my dad didn't like about it was that it had no safety it only has a decocer but i don't mind.

I might end up shooting squirrels instead haha. I can borrow a ruger from my brother so I'm looking for something different. My groupings have gotten better but I still get that 8 o'clock push. I also tend to shoot better with less time aiming in between shots. I just let the sights reset and fire away a few tight groups dead center. Then when I take the time to aim, the groupings open up..."Too many minds." I've been practicing Todd Jarret's tips too.

I'd probably bring something other than .22 -- like a P229 or P226 in 9mm. It's not so much the recoil, but .22 is like shooting an airgun. It just doesn't have enough "pop."

When and where is the steel challenge? What do they do? Distances? On the move? Draw?

I want to do defensive pistol comps or something like that, but I've been busy for a while.

Back to the OP... it might help if you list the other handguns you own, to make comparisons to what you're listing... Diversifying styles is nice.

I shoot it at West End Gun Club on the 3rd saturday of the month, but you can also shoot it at Piru.
I don't know when Piru's match is each month.

Centerfire guns always draw from the holster.
Steel Challenge is a fixed course of fire that's done round-the-world EXACTLY the same way everywhere so there is an even playing field.
It's very fast shooting on steel plates from 5 yds all the way out to maybe 35 yds.
Some stages have movement, but most are static.
No cover or concealment, just standing straight up.

If you want something more tactical, come shoot our two gun or three gun matches.
Those are always different, using cover, shooting on the move, barricades etc...
2nd and 4th saturday of the month.
We often carpool out to those matches if you want to jump in with us.
