    SpringField XD cleaning help

    Hi Guys,

Quick question regarding cleaning, do you scrub the outside of the barrel with solvent? and do you apply the lubrication oil to the outside of the slide?

BTw, i am using Hoppe's lubrication oil and Hoppe's solvent to clean the gun.

I followed a video on youtube in which the guy didnt do these 2.

    thanks

I like using a Rem Oil cloth for that but yes you should. "Scrub" isn't the right word. "Wipe" is the better word.

Use the solvent and a nylon brush, like a toothbrush, and just do a quick cleaning on it. When you put the solvent in the bore, leave it for about 10-15 minutes, depending on how dirty it is.

Personally I don't like Nutnfancy but his cleaning vid is decent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fx0-hMFako

One thing I'm unsure about is, he's moving the brush in and out. I've heard a lot of people say you don't do this because it may damage the crown. Again, I'm not sure how much truth there is to this but YMMV.

        Yep.

Neither will keep the gun from working, but it is good to clean the outside of the barrel and wipe down the outside of the slide, you want a light coat of oil on the outside of the barrel to slow wear & tear from the metal on metal contact. A very light coat of oil on the outside of the slide will help protect the finish from rust/corrosion, but you don't want very much oil on the slide or your hand will slip when you rack it.
