    Glock 26 or 27?

I am ready to get a new Glock and want a 26/27 sized model. I had a 27 for a while and sold it to buy a 29 which did not work out for me. I sold that to buy an SP101 which I love. Now I want a sub compact Glock again.

The only question is which one. Common sense tells me to get the 26 since ammo is cheaper and I can shoot the heck out of it. However I do carry this when I am fishing up in the mountains and like the extra punch of the .40. I have full sized Glocks in both calibers, so I would not be adding anther caliber to stock. I think the power for each one is almost a wash. I am not so sure the .40 is that much more powerful from the short barrel. Am I wrong?

What do you guy think? Should I go for a blaster and use the SP101 in mountains or should I get the 27 and have the best of both worlds, but higher ammo price?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I went with the g27 and later purchased a 9mm barrel for it. Very happy with it.

      BOTH!

I'd vote for the 27. I too use both calibers but .40 is great round. My 9mm is really for practice, lots of bullets for fairly cheap.

Interested as too why the 10mm didn't work out?

Some people choose to get the G27 and get a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel for it. Barrel costs like $110 plus you'll need some mags. Then you can do either caliber depending on the barrel you drop in.

I personally own a G26 and have been happy with it. The G26 is snappy enough, so I have really not felt like I've missed out not having .40s&w, but your mileage may vary.

edit: I type too slow, cause awall919 already said the same thing

I really liked the 29, but I am left handed and when I would shoot this one (doesn't happen with my 20) I would activate the slide lock. It happened all the time and I could not get it to stop. I could have shot watered down 10mm loads, but what is the point of that?

I really like the 29 am was bummed out when I decided to sell it. I bought the SP101 and had Hamilton Bowen work it over for me though and so I felt better.

Nothing like $$$ to fill that hole!

So have you decided on the 27 yet? I mean...

I would get the G27 and a 9mm conversion barrel/mags to shoot 9mm when you want.

I started with a G27 and wanted to shoot 9mm so I got a KKM barrel and a few G26 mags. Later I got the urge to get a dedicated 9mm so I bought a Glock 26. After a while I started to wonder why I bought the G26, because it was the same thing as the G27 with the conversion barrel. I didn't use the G27 with the barrel anymore and started to miss using it, so I sold the G26 and I'm back to square one with the G27 and conversion barrel.

I enjoy being able to shoot either caliber from the same gun when I want. Sometimes I like 9mm but other times I like a little more kick so I shoot .40. With a G26 you won't be able to shoot .40 out of it, so unless you hate .40S&W like some people do, I would go with the G27.

Also, either round may be as good or effective as the other, but I always feel more comfortable carrying a gun loaded with .40S&W as opposed to 9mm. That's just my personal opinion though.

Edit: The SP101 is a great gun, one of my favorites also. Have you ever thought of getting another revolver for fishing/hiking in the mountains like a 7-shot S&W686+ with 4 inch barrel?

I have both....love them both. However, my 13 year old daughter has dibs on the Glock 26.. She shoots it the most.

I love my Glock 27 and the .40. If I had to choose a backpacking gun for fishing trips (in 9MM or .40) .40 wins hands down. I run G23 normal capacity mags (13 rounds) in my G27 with a grip extension. Really a handy weapon with this set up.

However, in those back-woods situations, I carry my Glock 29 in 10MM. It runs 100% for me and has the power needed for just about anything.

Sorry you had left-handed-problems with yours. I think the Glock 29 is the best handgun available. Certainly the most versatile.

But a neat little package like the GLOCK 27 will do it for you.!

                Be well

                  Good Info.
I was thinking about to get one of the G26 or G27.
I think it will be better for me to go with G27 and add conversion barrel later on.

I can relate I'm an angler also get the Glock 26, since you have a woodsy firearm already the Sp101. Carry it in a fanny pack or in your chest pocket if you're wearing waders good to go!

I love my 27! If you already had one and liked it, why not rekindle that long lost love?

I own a 27 and very much like it! Bought a conversion barrel, now I have a 26 too.

I have shot both the G26 and G27. I own and carry the G26.

The recoil impulse from the G26 is much softer than the G27, and I am much more confident with 9mm than .40 in any pistol I shoot. I wish I could handle .40 in the smaller pistols, but I just don't like it.

Glock 26, just because I don't own any .40 S&W pistols, nor do I plan on buying any.

But, suffice to say, if I did get a compact 40, it would be either a Glock 27 or an M&P40c. My friends 40c doesn't have anywhere near the recoil I thought it would. It's almost as smooth as my 9c, but 9mm is always butter smooth.

i'd use the Ruger as a primary handgun in the mountains. the G26 would be a nice addition to the Ruger as a backup imo.
