XD-45 or M&P-45

I've decided that I'm going to add either a XD-45 Tactical or a M&P 45 to my collection and am currently torn on which to get.

I have handled and fired both handguns and neither is a clear cut winner. I liked the balance and adjustable backstraps on the M&P 45, but preferred the trigger on the XD45. Both are about the same price so that's not a factor.

I'm just looking for opinions on either gun.

No, but I have seen people talking about mags falling out. My buddy has the M&P .40 and no real problems with it but I don't like the fit/feel of it.

I liked my XD45, but my gripe was always the trigger (spoiled for years by nice 1911 triggers).

I picked up an XD45 Compact and sent it first thing out to Springfield Custom. Big improvement. I had the barrel refit, trigger work and Heinie sights installed. 100% better pistol now (at least to me). It will never be a 1911 trigger, but it's really not bad at all now. It now serves as my HD pistol (something I just never liked about keep a 1911 condition 1 around the house).

Never used a M&P, but the trigger looks like a long takeup....Personally, I really love my XD now....

i love my xd9!! and use it regularly in uspsa... and haven't changed a thing on it. i only have limited experience with the m&p pistols and while they were nice to shoot, i just plain shot the xd's better, so i picked one up and haven't looked back...

I loved the feel of the gun in my hand with the backstrap that was installed on my particular instance of the M&P 45.

Trigger felt "OK" as in "OK, pretty much like a Glock". But Burwell gunsmithing seems to have "the cure".

Given the variety of satisfied shooters w/S&W M&P45, I think I'll be happy.

Selling my G21 soon as I'm bored with it.

I have no experience with the M&P, but I have nothing but good things too say about my XD45. It will shoot anything you feed it and is quite accurate.

To jump on the bandwagon...my vote is for the XD. I have had my XD .45ACP Service Model since they first came out and i love it. never had one FTF or any other malfunction.

I have heard numerous reports of breakage and unreliability from the M&P series.

If you havent seen it already, check out the torture test done on the XD when it first came out.

My vote is for the XD45. I bought mine used from a fellow calgunner and have put probably 2k rounds through it. It works like a champ and it eats all kinds of ammo I throw at it.

In regards to the M&P .45, I attended a class by Louis Awerbuck and he commented that the XD would be big hit in the upcoming years. Apparently he had been using them for a few years now when they were still being called HS2000s. Anywho, Louis had heard/seen of reports of the M&Ps failing. Please note all this is anecdotal so YMMV. Me, I trust Louis. And i believe according to some articles that I've read you carries a Robar-ed XD

I loved my XD45 except that the trigger wore a hole in the tip of my trigger finger. I traded it off after that. Really nice gun except the trigger safety goes to far in and allows the "ears" of the real trigger to rub on your finger.

Note...I only found this out after shooting about 200-300 rounds in one day with that gun. Most likely not a big deal if you aren't doing that.

XD 45 Compact. That being said, I like them both and tried them both out (plus Glocks) before deciding. The XD just fit my hand better.

Also, I've had no problems with the trigger cutting my finger like the previous poster, and every weekend I make it out (about 3 out of 4) I put about 150~400 rounds down range in mainly tactical drills.
