    Sig P220 extractor question.

Ok, I know that some Sigs have internal and some have external extractors. How can I tell which is which? On my 220 along the right side of the slide there is something that looks like a chamber loaded indicator, but it doesn't change even w/the chamber full. Is that the sign of an external extractor?
Also whats the difference? Are there pro's and con's to either type, or is one significantly better?
    Thanks, BC

No extractor looks like this (scroll to picture 2 in the listing):

P220 with extractor looks like this (scroll to picture 3):

The external extractors are said by some to be more reliable, but quite honestly, I have found both to be reliable in my own personal experience.

I have internal extractors on both of my P220's and im not the first owner of either, and both Sigs are over 15 years old and still going strong.

You have an external extractor base on that description.

While some say the external extractor is more reliable (which is a newer design revision), others say that older/German made Sigs are more reliable (which would come with the internal extractor).

There are no problems with the internal extractors on the carbon folded slide 220s.

The have not been any problems with the external extractors on the stainless milled slides.

The only problems that became an issue with some 220s were the combination of the internal extractors and the stainless milled slides

I have a newer 220 with the stainless milled slide and an internal extractor and I had problems with failures to feed, but I can't be sure if it wasn't a mag problem or the extractor. I put a Wolf extra power recoil spring in and it fixed the issue, so oh well. I'll figure it out eventually.

My 226 with external extractor has been flawless through about 1,000 rounds so far, but the 9mm 226 is supposed to be flawless in the Sig line.
