    EAA Witness Elite Match

I've been lusting after this thing for a while now. Steel frame with rail, low bore axis, based on the proven CZ75/Browning Hi-Power design, conversion kits for every caliber you could want, and it's less than $500... for the match model.
Talk me out of this thing. Hard mode: Not suggesting what to buy instead of it.

Calling it "Commiefornia" really isn't helping.

straight talk here, I shoot a cz75SP01 in competition and have done extensive work on my match gun as i shoot it in limited with a 40 top end so i can get points for shooting major.
I had the same idea as you but after finding the lack of parts for it and the fact that most of the stuff made for the cz's wont fit without major modification I could not justify paying the money for it. My mom lives in georgia and was going to give me a pistol as a gift and this was one of the options but i turned it down for the cz and the fact that it would cost almost the same as buying a CZ tactical sport to make it a similar gun as the tactical sport. don't get me wrong it is a great gun for the money if you are looking for something to shoot occasional matches or a weekend plinker but it will take work if you want to shoot limited or limited 10 with it. but like i said if it's just something to have for occasional shooting i can't think of a reason to not spend the money on it.

also just because they make conversion kits that "drop in" doesn't mean it wont require minor fitting. there's no such thing as a drop in part for any gun

Why would you want to be talked out of it? It's a great gun, one of the most accurate guns I've dealt with (mine's a .40). The only problem is that finding it in CA will be tough, as it's not on the roster. Expect to pay "CA premium", too. I paid about $800 for mine (it came with a lot of mags though).

Aside from it being very accurate, the recoil is pretty mild for the round (.40 can be snappy, but the all-steel gun negates a lot of it), it feels good in my hands (medium-to-small), and I'm yet to experience a failure of any kind with many different kinds of ammo and not too frequent cleaning.

My only gripe was with the sights, they're plain black ones and aren't visible in low light conditions (such as an indoor range ). I painted the front sight with fluorescent paint, and I'll probably replace them at some point.

Oh, and one good thing about Witnesses is that you can easily convert them into different calibers. At this point they have 9mm, 38 super, .40, 10mm, .45, and .22lr.

Heck, if you're in L.A. area, I can let you shoot it... I'm not responsible for your fiscal situation

If you are willing to be patient, "large frame" pistols (i.e. can shoot .38 super, 10mm, or .45 acp) come up for sale a few times a year on Calguns. You could also regularly go to www.Gunbroker.com ; http://www.elitedealseeker.com/ is an option as well. You may not necessarily find one with a light attachment, or in the caliber you want, but finding a decent frame is what matters. On occasion, Limited and Gold Team style pistols (features square trigger housing and checkered front and back straps) come available also.

Regarding a question about where to find 10 round magazines, they are available directly from the factory www.eaacorp.com for about $25 each (if you buy three).
