    Kimber Gold Combat II

I am looking for feedback from anyone who owns, has owned, or fired one. I am buying one and am doing some research on this particular model.

    Reliability
    Accuracy, handling
    etc

Shot one yesterday, It was a Gold Combat Stainless that was purchased in 2003. Feels great in the hand, Trigger was extremely crisp, And it functioned perfectly. Like any Kimber, It is well put together, And felt very solid. The owner who is a friend of mine has not had a single issue with it, And used to compete in IDPA with it. In all honesty, Its hard to justify the price, Considering there are so many "Custom" handgun manufacturers out there in that price range. I own a Custom II that has been a 100% from the get go. I love it, and will never part with it.

I was able to secure one for under 1500 out the door new in box. MSRP is just over 2200 so I couldnt ignore the deal.

The TRP is not even close to the Gold Combat in my very well versed opinion. Not even in the same ballpark. I have owned TRPs and played with the Kimber Gold Combat. This is NOT your typical Kimber.

i don't know... i think it's over rated! but for $1500 i think it's a good deal if you are a collector. i like to shoot my guns... a lot. i hate just staring at them and then put it back in the safe.

+1!!!! In all honesty, I did compare the Gold Combat II to a Les Baer Premier II, and a Springfield TRP, the Kimber GCII is more refined in fit and finish, racking the slide is extremely smooth, everything about it just reeks of high precision and craftsmanship.

Now, this extensive comparo that I did was at an LGS, comparing both side-by-side and not shooting. As to the TRP in comparison, the Kimber GC II is wayyyyyy above it.

I shot the Gold Combat II a few times before i went with the Super Match II, and it is an awesome pistol. Reliable, accurate, and extremely smooth to shoot. I have never had a problem with any Kimber that i own, and you will not regret buying it

What separates the two in your opinion?

If you mean between the Kimber Gold Combat II and the Springfield TRP, for one the GCII has a bull barrel whereas the TRP has the bushing type. In the trigger pull quality, the GCII has a much smoother trigger pull than that PARTICULAR TRP that was shown me.

While the TRP is finished better than the average SA's, it did had a few sharp corners (slide corners in the rear near the hammer, slide edge on the left hand side by the slide stop notch), the GCII is just smooth all around. Fit of barrel to slide is about even----tight enough to negate any slop.

Grip on the GCII FEELS expensive but weird looking (one thing I will replace if ever I could afford one). When cocking the hammer, it feels much smoother to the GGII than the TRP. Thumb safety engaged/disengaged movement is better on the GCII than TRP----it gives a satisfying click into on & off vs. HARDER to disengage with TRP. Also the edges of the thumb safety in the GCII is better blended to the frame than TRP.

Make no mistake, both guns are really awesome pieces. But there is just more of that quality feel and precision craftsmanship with the GCII than the TRP. There is more refinement attention that's given to the KGCII.

I have no quarrel with anyone who will prefer the TRP to the GCII though. BUT if I win the lotto, I'll get a pair of the GCII for myself. That's how much I like it.

Another approximation I can think of is, its like comparing a top of the line Lexus car (600 h sedan)to a top of the line Cadillac CTS.

For the cost of a Gold Combat, I'd rather get a Les Baer, Wilson Combat, or an Ed Brown 1911. I love the look of the Gold Combat and would gladly own one, but for the money; there are much better options. I'd even love to own a Nighthawk Custom. Kimber does make a nice 1911. The quality of parts in one of the above mentioned companies far exceed Kimbers MIM parts. And when you spend that much on a pistol, you want top quality inside and out. But a Gold Combat for 1500???? I wouldn't even hesitate for that price. Sweet find.

I love my Gold Combat stainless II, I paid $1000 used, but I don't think I will pay retail for it. It's fitment and quality is really good, it is unlike any other Kimber, but GC II don't hold its value as other guns at around that price range (les Baer, Nighthawk).
