    XD 3 dot sights question.

Hi Guys, I took my brand new XD9 to the range yesterday, i am newbie and this is the third time i shot a gun. First couple of shots were low, it happened to me even on my second visit to the range all my shots were low. My friend (he has some experience but not a lot) asked me how i am aiming, and i told him that i am aligning back 2 dots and front dot in a straight line. My friend suggested to keep the front dot little higher than the rear dots (like a traingle) and aim, i did that and my shooting improved a lot.

My question to the experts out there is, is it the correct way to do it? i tried googling and didnt get any information regarding this method.

    Please advice.

    thanks

XDs shoot 6o'clock hold....slightly above the dot.

Its more likely your yankin' the trigger a little. Very common for new shooters.

So, the traingle method is not the correct method.

        thanks

          No.

XDs are even more notorious for the dreaded "low and left" issue then it seems any other handgun. That is more likely the issue.

My xd9 has a pretty severe 6 o clock hold like sight image 1. It drives me crazy. I love it otherwise.

poor trigger press can ruin a good sight alignment though, I would suggest dry firing taking caution to not let your sights move as you're pressing your trigger...front sight, press, repeat as necessary

IMO a lifetime can be spent on pressing a trigger correctly

I had the same issue until I used a Springer Precision kit with a reduced pull and reset, I went from left and low to reflexive spot on.

I am just a newbie, do you guys think getting a trigger job is a good investment or just use the stock trigger for a while?

                      thanks

Your stock trigger is fine. Yeah, a trigger job will help, but if you're a newbie you still need to work on the fundamentals to improve YOURSELF. Improving the firearm will only get you so far, but if you improve your fundamentals more than anything, you should be able to pick up just about any gun and shoot them well, trigger job or not.

My XDm shoots a bit high... just a bit. low left is operator error 99.999% of the time.
