HELP!!! Colt Super Stallion .38 Super

It is a 1911 .38 super. Has anyone ever heard of this gun? Does anyone know what year/s these were in production. Can't find any information on Google.

I can not find pcs on line. DOJ won't clear it unless its over 50 years old... it looks like a blue 1911w/ wood grips that say colt. It says COLT SUPER STALLION on the slide. Also says Super .38 Automatic...

I seem to make me recall these were in the same vain as the Colt "El series" guns, most originating with Lew Horton, like the El Capitan, El Comandante, El Soldad, El Toro, El Patron, El Potro, El Presidente, El Rey, and others.

When these were available to us before SB15, I remember Martin B. Retting's gun store having several offerings of the "El"series guns and I am am very sure of my memory that they had one of these Super Stalions, whereby I looked at it, and left it alone. Like the El series guns, it seemed like a lot of flash and little substance, like it was a basic, low-quality production 1911, but with a Colt lable and a fancy finish.

Many of these were chambered in .38-Super as it is believed they were originally made as sidearms for a Mexican market. It is quite possible the original Mexican contract went defunct, and Lew Horton distributing bought the lot, then dressed them up with fancy finishes, and resold them with the American/Hispanic bling-everything set in mind.

I suspect the Super Stalion was a part of that club, even though not an "El" gun. Average guns, with standard quality, wearing flashy names and flashy finishes.

I met with Matt last night (heck of a nice guy....he waited after hours for me to show up so I could purchase a Fulton lower...they are kind of far from me, but well worth the trip)....at least I think it's Matt who's posting...

The reason he is asking is someone wants to bring it in to state via FFL transfer.

This was one of the special edition Colts (yeah, I remember all the special edition Colts, chromed out, 38 Super "El Presidentes" etc.).....

If I also remember correctly, isn't there an exception to the roster list for "collectibles"? I think he mostly wants to know if this can be imported and DROS'd in Cali, even if it is not on the list.

Anyone know the details about exceptions for the odd modern collectible? I seem to recall there being one.

IIRC, the only "exception" might be if it's on the ATF Curio and Relic list. I don't think that the Super Stallion is on the list. I looked to see if I could get a Colt Super Elite into the state this way. If you are unsure you might contact the CA DOJ.
