1911 sights ria novak

Hello fellow calgunners!
I own a rock island arms 1911, and I want to upgrade my rear sights. I pretty much know about the front sight, but I heard from a fellow 1911 owner that in order to upgrade my rear sight I have to machine cut my slide! I really dont want to fabricate anything to make this happen. Or is there an adjustable rear sight that does not require any fabrication to my slide.

As I recall, the RIA uses a smaller Novak style cut. Your options are to machine the slide, or shave some material off the sight itself. If you can get your hands on a proper Novak cut sight, I would compare it against what you have currently.

Seems like I was just reading about this somewhere (probably here) and the info on the GI RIA was that the slide has a rear cut sight that is the same as a Colt 1911 and the front sight is a narrow tenon.

Don't quote me on that but I'm sure someone will confirm soon enough

The gun shown had a King Tappan rear sight with a narrow tenon fiber optic front I believe
