    1911 Ammo?

    Quick question?

I pick up my very 1st 1911, reload ammo OK to use for break in period or factory and if so which brand.

    Thanks

It should eat just about any ball/fmj with ease.

When I had my first new 1911 I was using Load X reloads and CCI Aluminum during the break in period. I can honestly say I had maybe 5 hiccups on the first 150 rounds but after that it was fine as long as I kept it oiled and cleaned.

I usually break-in using a mix of my reloads and factary ball. If your gun has problems with the reloads switch to factory ball for break-in.

230grain FMJ ball will load best in any .45 ACP. You should put 1,000 rounds of that through it before you rely on it at home, in the dark. You're not breaking in the gun (ok, you are a little), you're breaking in yourself.

After that, feel free to keep it under the side of the bed, one in the chamber, cocked & locked. I like Remington Golden Saber HPJ rounds. My 1911's have enough hardballs through them that they'll cycle just about anything I want them to...

You make your own luck. Good or bad- It's up to you. I want to learn to reload 10mm but lack the time to do so. If you already reload ammo then you have a step up but if you're someone like me, breaking in a new gun, who doesn't reload at home, then quality brand new ammo would be my choice to get a better feel for the performance of the pistol. I wouldn't use down loaded range supplied ammo to break in my new pistol- but hey that's me.
