Need help from the Glock gurus - PROBLEM SOLVED, Oct. 2011

    PROBLEM SOLVED, Oct. 2011:

I never sent the pistol to Glock. First it was a timing issue, then a money issue, then a "I forgot all about it" issue. Eventually it just went back to sitting in my safe.

Then my friend offered to detail strip it, give it a good cleaning, and give it the "25 cent trigger job." He's done some great work on his Sig pistols, so I trusted him to do it right. When I got the pistol back, the problem was about 90% solved. The only trouble that persisted was that the slide was not locking into battery as snuggly as I wanted when the trigger remained depressed. This, obviously was a recoil spring issue.

I ordered a new recoil spring assembly from Glockmeister for $10.50 shipped, swapped it in, and now my G19 is 100% healthy. I took it out to the range to test it out on Sunday, and it works great. The 25 cent trigger job helped too. I really like the results.

I have an old Gen 2 G19 that I'm trying to "refresh" in order to prepare it for possible CCW duty. I have not had any malfunctions in this pistol, but recently I noticed that it does something my other Glocks do not do...

When I hold the pistol with the barrel pointed towards the sky, then depress the trigger, the slide moves rearward with the trigger pull. When I depress the trigger fully (i.e. dry fire) the slide jumps back to the "normal position." The guns does it's job 100% at the range, but I'm wondering if this slide movement is a symptom of a worn out or broken part that needs replacement. Any suggestions from the Glock gurus?

Also, this pistol has not been worked on for many years. Are there any parts that I should plan on replacing in order to simply "refresh" it.

I think the trigger bar is getting caught on something in the slide when held vertically.

Most likely the firing pin safety.

Glock will rebuilt it with new parts for free. Give them a call.

My gen 3 G19 does that. It does move as much but it does move back just like that.

Your firing pin safety might not be depressing properly when the trigger bar comes back and it might be dragging the slide. I would look at your slide and see if you can push in firing pin safety all the way. I'm a certified Glock Armorer in Orange County and be happy to take a look at it for you.

Looks like worn springs, which is why when you point the gun straight up the trigger bar cross section catches the vertical extension on the firing pin. Grab a new trigger spring and recoil spring and you should be G2G.

As for parts that need replacing, there are a few that wear, but only an armorer would be able to correctly determine if they need to be replaced. Glock recommends replacing the recoil spring every 3000-4000 rounds (roughly).

If in doubt though, you should have an armorer look at it. They can diagnose it in a couple minutes, and should have all the parts on hand to complete a repair.

You might do a detail strip and clean, then replacing the recoil and trigger spring. Might also replace the slide lock spring.

Yep, that's one of the awesome things about Glock.

It sounds like sending it in to Glock might be the best way to go.

                    Questions:

                    1) Is there a pricing sheet online for Glock's services?
                    2) What is their estimated turnaround time?
                    3) Do you think they would be able to refinish my slide (it was hard-chromed at some point in it's life)

I don't believe they refinish slides, but they can replace the slide (at charge since it's not a warranty issue). Turn around is probably 3+ weeks I would assume, but if you call they can give you a more accurate number.

They don't have a pricing sheet online, but most parts are under $10 with the exception of firing pin, barrel, slide, and other large items.

They will do the black refinish, but since yours is chromed, I doubt they will mess with it. It would need to go to a plating shop first and be electro-chemicaly stripped.

Just did some searching on google and found this post detailing some prices and other information on the Glock refurb program. Seems like too good of a deal to pass up.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I guess I'll leave the finish alone anyway, since this was my first pistol and I'm a sentimental guy.

Looks like I can probably ship, get all the internals fixed up, and get night sights installed for about $80 total. This program they have just makes me even more happy to keep giving Glock my money.

                            Perfection.
