    Springer 1911 mainspring housing spring

I replaced the ILS mainspring on my loaded .45 Springfield and used the existing spring for my s&a mainspring housing. Now I hear talk that the stock spring is much heavier than regular stock. My trigger pull is heavier than my norinco m1911 I replaced the trigger hammer and MSH on. How many pounds is the spring on a regular MSH.

    Thanks

Factory standard mainspring is 23 lbs. I believe Springfield uses a 28lb mainspring to ensure reliable ignition with their heavier than stock firing pin spring which is used with the titanium 38 super/9mm firing pin to provide drop safety.

If you go to a lighter mainspring you may want to pick up a lighter firing pin spring in case you end up with light primer strikes and unreliable ignition.

how were you able to use the existing spring from your SA loaded?

the s&a needs a mainspring housing pin from a colt design/clone while the SA loaded does not come with one. instead, SA has the ILS MSH assembly that can be locked and has a special pin/takedown tool . i had to replace the the mainspring cap, spring, and plunger assembly as well. take note that the pin isn't necessary for it to function but its good to have.

I ordered a MSH pin from brownells all the other components from my springer dropped in like any other 1911. My only issue is with the msh spring which makes sense with the heavier firing pin spring.

          more info here.
Okay, since this is a recurring theme, I figured I'd take the ball and run with it. The question seems to be, "What parts do I need?" or, "How do I disable it?" or something along that line. All the part Stock Numbers listed are from Brownells. They represent the Colt replacement parts. You can...

When I replaced my ILS with a Guncrafter Lanyard MSH, I re-used my factory spring. I still have a clean 4.4lb trigger. My firing pin is starting to get a little shorter, so I have a Wolf +Power spring standing by to replace it with. Incorporating the stronger mainspring may be a benefit to you. I've never had a light strike yet.

When I replaced my ILS I used the Ed Brown rebuild kit (23lb mainspring) and I didn't re-use any of the ILS parts. I haven't had any problems with light primer strikes. Its a pretty good deal for $17 considering everything that is included in the kit.

I always keep one of these kits in blue and one in stainless, plus grip screws and bushing and an extra sear spring and recoil spring on hand. I't better than spending half an hour crawling on the floor looking for the pin you dropped.

Also I have to add, that had it not been for the advice and encouragement I've gotten here on CalGuns, I would never have had the confidence to do some of my own repairs and upgrades.
