So I decided I wanted to try this whole striker fired thing, and with Apex Tactical in my backyard, the M&P was a great option (not to mention I have always loved the ergos and looks of the pistol). I went to my LGS/indoor ranged and negotiated a reasonable price and included a range membership ($160 value), and put one on order. They had one in stock the week before, but apparently it sold shortly before I went in. I was told that they had 4 on order and that they were due in June (this was back in April) and they put my name on one of them.
I put a deposit down of $200 and got my range card. I am a patient person, and I have other guns to shoot, so I wasn't worried about having to wait a couple months when I could have driven down the street a mile or two and bought one right off the shelf. The range membership was what sealed the deal.
Fast forward to July 18. I have been in there regularly to shoot and bug them about my gun, and they keep telling me it is coming. Today they tell me: due to a huge European contract, the guns have been pushed back 3-4 more months. I understand business and how things go. I am upset that I don't have my gun yet, and that I sold my perfectly awesome SP2022 to buy the M&P9.
But I have options. I can buy any other gun that they have in stock or that they can get from their distributor. They stock tons of XD, they have Glock, Sig, SA 1911, CZ, Baretta, Browning, HI-Point, and HK on the shelf. To be honest, I am not that interested in those. They also have a M&P45 in stock, but I have a relatively new p220 Combat that fills my need for a .45acp. So now what do I do? Do I wait 3-4 more months and continue to exercise patience? Do I buy something to hold me over in the mean time? Maybe a Glock 17 or CZ75B or SP-01? Do I consider the XD (Which I have always thought were a little fugly, but they have a couple dozen different models in stock)?
The other question; are the M&Ps really backordered that far out? Is everyone else having a hard time getting them? OR am I getting some kind of a run around? I don't think so because they treat me like a good customer (which I am).
I just don't know what to do. waiting 6-9 months for a regular run of the mill gun is pretty odd.
