    Taser

Can a civilian legally have a tazer with them at all times , i am talking about these types of tazers http://www.protectmefirst.com/advancedtaser.asp , isnt this a good idea to have as a alternative to having a ccw or if you are going hunting and shi* hits the fan and you have a bear charging at you and u tazer him?

Looks legal, except for schools and state buildings/open meetings.

Somehow I don't think tasers are designed for bears. Bear spray?

Tasers which expel the tines by compressed gas (Taser X-26C) rather than an explosion of powder are not considered firearms, and as such may be carried openly or concealed just about everywhere, except for K-12 and some other places.

As already stated, Tasers are legal to carry in CA with a few exceptions. I ordered the newest model, the C2 back in June and it is still in backorder.

Consider the fact that the civilian versions of the Taser has a maximum range of 15 feet and the law enforcement version is 35 feet-that is a little too close to bear for me. I'm not sure that the Taser is designed for the central nervous system of bears like it is to humans.

If you are camping in bear country, I would consider something a little bigger than a Taser or even bear pepper spray.

I would think that a bear would feel the tazer as just a littel tickle, they have thick skin. Some spice to go with his human flesh! Bear spray will be better.

I'm sure we have all seen videos of enraged humans whom the taser has no effect on.. somehow I feel that an enraged Bear really isn't going to be phased by 50,000 volts.

They have an animal taser which may or may not drop the bear (look for a video of it dropping a bull!).

They only sell it to LE though, and the animal's recovery seems IMMEDIATE when it is turned off- i.e. really pee'd off bear!

It says 'not for human use', but a rep from Taser I spoke to says it's still non lethal.

really bad idea, I doubt the probes would even penerate the bears hide... You more then likely just piss it off more.

Tazers can be open carried or concealed and carried.

Well tasers don't sap you, they pulse you which forces your muscules to react, enraged persons don't ignore the effect. Unless the probes disconnect or one doesn't make contact with your body / clothes "missings you", your going down.

Make sure you hit him in the nostrils or it won't have much effect

No, I've never seen a video where the probes made skin contact and failed to effect the suspect. Are you sure you don't mean that a probe missed, or got stuck in thick clothing, or something else involving an incomplete connection?

On COPS last night, some dude booked out of a t-stopped car and the cop warned him twice he was gonna get tased, and he did, fell over, but was totally silent, still, and not appearing to be in any pain during or after. Remembering previous footage with blood curdling screamers, I wondered whether it didn't make contact, or the guy just wasn't a wimp or drama queen.

Don't know about all animals but...

....when I was young foolish teenager, I bought me one of those 60,000 volt stun guns.

.....there also was this neighbor who had one of those vicious pit bulls terriers that made it impossible to use one half side of my parents back yard. The terrifying animal would get real vicious and bounce off the fence, which at that time was nearly destroyed and leaning precariously into our yard with repeated repairs and angled posts to prop it back up and to cover the huge rips in the wood.

The stun gun and the dog had a destiny to meet in the future.

Actually one of the reasons I got the thing was because of the dog.

Da$m dog would scare the hell out of our family and friends on multiple occasions. It killed a neighbor's cat and chewed up our dog once when it got into our yard. Our poor dog was terrified and would not go anywhere nears that side of the yard after that, nor would anyone else in our family.

Well after being scared for the unteenth time with a roar, bark bark, pounding on the fence, teeth showing and slobbering from the mouth, lots of loud growling, and fence looking about to kilter over, and continued bickering with this neighbor and his with the rest of the neighborhood about his dog, I decided to be the vigilante and zap this dog.

As usual he came up jumping against the fence. He had put allot of holes into it. I had to be patient and almost got him on several occasions. Then he apparently leaned up against a part of the fence with a gap so he could lick his balls, and I crept up slowly and ZAP! I gave him a good one.

It hollered out like a sissy dog, then ran as if both back legs were paralyzed, running with the front legs and back legs dragging behind him on the ground.

Well this was a really stupid dog because this went on for maybe a month or two where I zapped it maybe a dozen times. I even taped the thing to a pole and used a to reach over the fence and zap it a few times.

It took a while but that stupid dog did stop bouncing off our fence. Fortunately about 6 months later it bit the mail man. They don't mess around and after being told the mail would not be delivered into our neighborhood anymore and so on, the animal control came and took that killer dog away.

The moral of the story is that those zappers do work against dogs in a manner similar to humans. Use it in a controlled environment only till it is proven. As to bears, will I would use a real gun and not rely on experimenting to find out what works. Of course you could also try diplomacy and offer the bear something out of the icebox and to sit by the fire drinking a cold one with you.
