I'm using Winchester Rangers 124gr +P in my G17 for HD. I wanted to see if this ammo will perform fine in its little brother, the G26? I notice Gold Dot makes 9mm short barrel JHP ammo and wanted to see the story with high pressure ammo in short barrels.

+P ammo in a shorter barrel?
Tags: None -
Most manufacturers will recommend not using +or +p+ ammo on a regular basis. But that is their generic disclaimer. Personally, I switched from
using 124 gr +p to HST 147 gr.

Glock, IIRC, specifically disclaims using higher pressure ammo. It'll work fine, but if that's all you shoot, over time and in large quantities the gun is most likely going to wear more / faster than with standard pressure ammo.
The "short barrel" ammo (and I use 135 grain Gold Dot .38 +P in a snub S&W 19) is loaded with powder that produces less muzzle flash. It's still plenty effective from my own casual assessment on the range.
FWIW, 9mm is a higher pressure round at standard (35000 psi) than a .38 Special +P (20000 psi). Given the capabilities of modern bullets, my opinion is that +P or +P+ is not really necessary. I'm another advocate of 147 grain HST standard pressure.

We issue +P+ ammo for use in our issue 17s as well as for those who have 26s for off duty guns and as long as you don't shoot it all time you'll be fine. The satisfaction of a job well done is to be the one who has done it

Also heavier round.
The .38spl Speer GD "Short barrel" is 135gr.
The comparable load is 125gr.
The theory is that the heavier round takes longer to accelerate, allowing time for a more complete powder burn before the round exits the barrel.
So while normally, a lighter round will have a higher muzzle velocity, that isn't always the case with short barrels.
I run 124gr +P in my XD9 Service and wife's 92FS, but 147gr in the Glock26.- Rich

The biggest difference you are likely to notice between a short barreled autoloader and a full-sized one is the shorter gun will be more sensitive to differences in the ammo you feed it.Politicians and criminals are moral twins separated only by legal fiction.Comment

I'll normally shoot 25-30 rounds of the JHP ammo at the end of each range session. I'll give the HST 147gr a try in the G26. thanks guysComment

I fired 124gr 9mm+P GDHP-SB in my XD9sc yesterday. No feeding problems. It is a solid round for short barrels. I tried two hands and strong/weak single handed and got the kind of groups one would want from the 7yd line. Easily dumped 10+1, fast fire, into a nice tight group. Recoil did not seem +P.
