Springfield TRP question

Hey guys, so I've been looking around for a non-rail TRP and I found a few factory new on gun broker. I spoke with the sellers for two of them (out of state) and they said that the TRP is not legal in California. One of the guys actually told me that its not legal because of the grips, which I thought was hilarious. He said because Springfield changed the grips, California requires them to change the part number but they haven't. What do you guys think? I thought the non rail version is California legal.

I believe only the full rail dust cover TRP Operator (which is very hard to find especially since SA doesn't make them anymore, except for CA in limited amounts) is CA legal.

I know the Operator is legal but the part number for the non rail TRP is on the roster.

Well then, looks like you got fud from out of state vendors ignorant to our "hand gun roster". Not surprising. I advice you find a CA friendly out of state FFL that's educated with our roster and might help serve as a middle man. It might cost you a little more though.

I think you're right because one of those guys initially said the same thing to me. He said its not California legal. I told him to look it up on the handgun roster. Half an hour later he emailed me back telling me to send him my payment and FFL info. Thought that was funny.

I'll admit, I get confused myself with springfield guns since all SA guns are listed by model numbers only and the descriptions on the roster for them are vague at best. If the model is just one number off or is missing a dash or letter, everyone gets confused, including me.

Ya I totally agree with you man. I was confused about the "P" in the SA model numbers until I found out that it means package. Stupid California lol. Thanks for your advice.

I just had this one shipped to me.
Keep in mind that it shipped with different grips.
I put these grips on it. It came with wood grips.

TRP is on the bottom.

Anyways, here's my stainless TRP. Bought it last Christmas. Seller called to make sure it was legal, but it only took about 2 minutes to tell them it was on the roster and was therefore good to go. I forgot to take a picture of it, but I think they were confused by the sticker on the box that said "NOT LEGAL IN CALIFORNIA". Apparently Springfield can't really figure it out for themselves either. And for the record, yes, the exact model number (minus the "package" P) appears on the roster.

Ya, that's exactly what the guy told me. The one I bought says "Not legal in California" on the case too. That's why I had to convince the guy. Glad it worked!

Also, other than the factory Springfield and Wilson 47D mags, what other magazines would you guys recommend? What kind of ammo should I avoid for the TRP?
