Anybody know any place in So Cal who is carrying them? I really like my P22 and want to check out the P99 in 9mm before making my decision. Other 9's I am considering are M&P and the Glock 19.

Walther P99, who has them in So Cal?

The P99 was indeed designed on the 9mm platform. However, they had 40S&W before S&W started doing their US distribution. The ones produced/manufactured by S&W are SW99s which have a different grip, etc. P99s are still manufactured in Germany by Walther, whether it be in 9mm or 40sw. Once they get here, they are stamped by S&W. Its part of my Walthers are only offered a 1 year warranty by S&W while SW99s (along with the rest of present day S&W guns) have a lifetime warranty. P99s come standard with Tenifer treatment like Glocks while SW99s have Melonite treatment like M&Ps.
I own a P99 in 9mm. The gun definitely looks slick and almost everyone I've let handle it, thinks it feels very nice in hand. Unfortunately for me, the gun feels a bit "cramped" - even with the large backstrap; don't take it from me though.. I'm one that finds Glock ergonomic. My GF loves the gun and she pretty much primarily shoots my P99 now.Last edited by gorenut; 07-11-2011, 4:52 PM.Comment

I had an early model P99AS with titanium slide. I enjoyed the trigger system and platform but I ended up selling it. I probably should had just hard chromed the slide and kept it (slide was discolored due to oxidation of some sort).
I guess my train of thought at the time was to sell it and buy the newer model with the picatinny rail.Comment

I absolutely LOVE my p99AS. Put over 2000 rounds through it with one cleaning at 1000. One jam due to a bent up wwb 9mm. Adjustable sights, my loves 124 grainComment

The P99 AS I bought a while ago just showed up in the mail. It's a .40 S&W, and I love it! Mine is all German made (Ulm Eagle over N nitro proof marks, no S&W stamp), and I'd like to compare it side by side with one of the S&W 99's (I've never seen one up here).sigpicComment

You will probably have to find it online or see if someone can order it for you. They are fairly hard to come by. It is by far the snappiest 9mm I own or have ever shot for that matter, but I absolutely love it for some reason. I want to find a way to SSE the new PPQ. looks like a cross between the P99 and an H&K P30Originally posted by Neil McCauleyAre you actually suppost to "taste" wood?

They are not very different, the P99 grip texture is a little more comfortable and the slide machining has a nicer profile IMO. On the other hand the recoil is probably a tad lighter on the S&W because the slide is slightly heavier. I don't really notice any real difference though. Desert Eagle now uses the design as well in their lineupOriginally posted by Neil McCauleyAre you actually suppost to "taste" wood?

I shot the glock again last night, ( have shot the 21SF,19 and 17) and I just don't like the grip. I am going to have to scratch it of the list.Originally posted by Z_SprizLI haven't had any malfuctions after almost 1k rounds. You should definitely try to shoot a couple different pistols that you are interested in if you can before you purchase just to see which one feels best to you.Comment
