    Borrowing a handgun?

Alrighty, so i have a question (sorry if it has already been discussed elsewhere)

The question is this: i want to get into shooting Steel Challenge, IDPA, and handgun falling plate. My current age is 20, and i dont turn 21 until june of next year, thus i cant purchase my own handgun.

My father isnt keen on the idea of buying a handgun for me to use, so thats out thw window.

Now i have a buddy of mine who is 21 and has a CZ75b single action only that he would be willing to let me borrow and use for matches and range time.

Would this be legal? Or is there a specific way to do it legally?

I know that on a federal level, anyone over 18 who would not normally be denied purchase of a firearm can posses a handgun, but cannot purchase one from a dealer, nor purchase the ammunition for it. However, i am unsure about here in california

That book how not to get arrested and own a gun in ca might help.

My guess which is nothing but a guess is that you could use it if your pal was at the range and under his control transporring it to and from events.

If they let you shoot under 21.

Oh and you'd best have taken the firearm test and gotten a card. I think if you borriw a gun over 3 days you need it.

Austin93906, the competitive shooting world is full of youngsters, it's called the Juniors Program. Yes, you can shoot a sanctioned match*** with a borrowed gun under the age of 21. It has nothing to do with eligibility to legally own the weapon. However, you want to have your own gun belt, holster and mag pouches. When you are the shooter called to the line, your friend can transfer gun and mags.

***This decision is made by the match director because the host club may have policies in place that over ride the national organizations. It is best to call the match director and tell him your situation. I believe this is the closet match, give them a call
