How long for an intrafamilial transfer?

For anyone that had an intrafamilial transfer go through lately, how long did it take?

I sent in the form on August 15th, the DOJ called me about it on August 20th and then cashed my check on September 4th.

I was just wondering what the expected wait is?

My buddy has an old revolver that belonged to his uncle that passed to his mom when the uncle died about a year ago. The guy's mom gave him the gun about 8 months ago. He didn't realize he needed to fill out an IFT form. Can he just do it now without getting into any trouble?

If you are not a prohibited person, and save copies of your form and maybe return receipt, etc. that's good indication you've filed.

That's good enough. How the DOJ innards of paper processing work doesn't have to be your concern.

The only time this mattters would be if you somehow happened to be illegally transporting/CCWing a non-DROSed firearm.

I believe mine took about 2 months total from when I sent in the paperwork/check to when I received the letter back from the DOJ.

So whats the point in doing an intrafamiliar transfer? Saving a few bucks? It appears that a regular PPT with an FFL is faster and easier.

No 10 days wait. No lock/safe required crap. A LOT less paperwork. $19 total.

                  Indeed it is

Forgot to mention you can do as many handguns as you want in the transfer at no additional cost

It's the only way to get a handgun while 18-20.

I am doing one of these as well. As far as forms go, I just need to fill out the one (on the DOJ) website, mail it in with my $19 bucks and I am good to go right?

Correct. The person receiving the handgun must have a HSC, but im sure you knew that

Forgot to mention it has to be a Check or Money Order you mail in.

I thought that I would update this instead of starting a new thread.

I called the DOJ BOF this afternoon to inquire about the status of my Intrafamilial Transfer that I have not received the written acknowledgement of yet after mailing it on August 15th.

The BOF Rep said that this was unusual as the process normally takes about 45 days so he looked up my information and couldn't find it on the computer. He said that it could be "on hold" but the woman who's office handles that is located across town and he would have to check with her and call me back.

Maybe I'm being investigated! (How come there's no smiley with handcuffs?)

I just talked to the DOJ. They only have one person who handles these forms and she is working on forms that were submitted on 14 August, right now.

Expect at least a 60 day delay for processing these forms.
