    "Idiot Scratch"

What's up guys, I can't help but notice that a lot of the threads in the for sale section state that the firearm for sale has no "Idiot Scratch"...

My question is what the hell is an "Idiot Scratch"?

Can somebody please care to elaborate?

    Thanks

You see em on 1911s when people aren't putting the gun together properly (using force) after field stripping.

When putting the slide stop back into a 1911 and it's rotated down - it can scratch the frame. See this thread: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=420357

Edit: or the slide! Wow never seen that before...usually it's the frame

Haha, yea, no kidding. That pic isn't mine (thankfully).

OP: Its usually on the frame near the trigger. You can see traces of the average "Idiot Mark" in the picture in the divot and up towards the safety.

They're caused by a screw driver head slipping out of a screw on the frame of the gun as well. That can cause pretty gnarly idiot scratches.

Makes you wonder how many GI's had 1911's with idiot scratches. Most?

Guess I should go look at my RIA and see if I have managed to put one on it. Well guess I am an idiot. Very light one but I can see it. Weapon still works just fine so I don't really care.

The term is IDIOT MARK. So that is why it did not come up in a search.
