    AR Pistol Designations

A group of us are in the process of finishing 80% AR lowers. Jigs and lowers have been obtained, and we are about to machine them in a week or two.

I am wondering what designation, if any, needs to be on the lower. Does it have to say "Pistol Only" with caliber? If any of you have finished your ARs, could you take some pics or direct me to some links with some close-ups of the engraving? I was thinking of just finishing the lower and anodizing them and just getting it laser engraved as it seems to be much easier and cheaper.

Any info on how to go about this process would be much appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

An 80% lower does not need to be marked as a pistol once it is completed into a 100% receiver and does not need a make, model, serial number, etc unless you plan on selling it.

    More info here:
Learn about 80% Lowers, the legalities and what it takes to complete one.

No serial number is required however it is suggested to engrave a serial number, model and manufacturer on your receiver in case it is lost or stolen.

Both my pistol lowers have the following info:
      manufacturer
      City & State
      Model
      Caliber
      Serial #

You'll want that info engraved, not laser etched. If you plan on registering the receiver and/or selling it, there is a minimum depth requirement. Laser engraving will NOT appease CADOJ requirements
