    Hi point C9

My friend wants to buy a handgun but when I told her how much they cost
Anyway we went to the range again this weekend and she just loves the hell out of my glock so she asked me to look into a gun for her again. Are high points any good for a first gun? The price tag is great and it comes with lifetime warranty whats not to like?

Shes just gonna punch paper with it no HD or nothin.

    Advice appreciated

I had one before. Mine was picky on magazines. C9's are cool for range toys, just be prepared for all the trash talk and laughter; that also comes with Hi Points..

They're freaking crazy heavy, but well built.

This guy sells them, and is very impressed by them. They won't win a beauty contest, they aren't ideal for carry, and they're damn heavy. However; they'll eat the ammo you feed them, they're accurate, and will go bang every time.

Same youtube poster had a competitive shooter use one in competition. He got the highest score for accuracy and placed damn well, despite having many complications from his choice of magazines.

If you're looking for a dirt-cheap 9mm, then this is the brick you want (did I mention it's heavy for its size?). After all, even a cheap heavy gun can be used for self defense at home if you have it handy, and a 9mm will get the job done.

If you want a first-time gun that's for plinking at the range... spend an extra hundred or so and get a Ruger mark II or III used. They shoot damn straight and give you the fun of using a toy at the range. the cost difference will be made up VERY quickly by ammo prices. ($20 bucks for 500+ .22lr, vs $20-30 per 100 9mm.)

My final recommendation... why not? It's 200ish and you get a reliable 9mm.

For the price you can't beat them, they are well worth it. They are tough, reliable and shoot just fine. Plus they are made in the USA. Whats not to like?

I would tell her to save some money and buy something better.

If your friend likes the way the glock feels and shoots then I would look into a used or new one. Glocks and Hi Point are very different in fit and finish and not to mention weight. Hi Points are heavy and may not be the best fit for a women. Have her handle one and see it she likes it. If this is all she can afford then totally different equation. Hi Points are better than nothing for HD.

I would recommend she save up a bit more and buy the gun she likes, have her handle one and if she likes a hi-point then fine, otherwise its a $150 paperweight. If it is used at all regularly then the cost of ammunition will quickly pass the cost of the gun.

For example, I never shoot less than 100 rounds of 9mm when I go to the range, so at $11 a box that's $22 per range trip. 7 trips to the range(an average month for me) and I have paid for a Hi-point.

If cost is the issue I would tell her to look into a Ruger MKIII or 22/45, more upfront but ammo is so much cheaper.

Also you can find decent new 9mm guns for $300 or so, and nicer used guns for about the same(I bought my Walther P38 for $300 and I have seen used Glocks for $400 ish).

It took 7 post but i knew it was coming lol.

Anyway i owned one in the past and did just what it needed to as a range toy, i even added pink cammo grips and pink color filling to it after my wife loved it so much she stole it from me.

The hipoints will always get a thumbs up from me as they got my wife into the hobby, everything else that needs to be said about Hipoints has already been said by the owners in this thread.

O I owned one alright. I think I had it for two weeks tops before I sold it. I had them send me new spring and "Dolls Head" but it only made it worse. I figure it is hit or miss with em and I missed. I would MAYBE buy another one in the future but not anytime soon.

Ok thanks for all the suggestions i'll see if they have on for rent at the range we go to shoot. she really wants a 9mm so the .22 is out (she likes the bang).

if I can find a cheap used glock i'll tell her to get it, id just rather she get a first gun and get into the hobby then scare her away with a big price tag. but lots of great advice thanks.

Yea but what if her Hi-Point is a jam-o-matic and she hates it. That will probably shy her away from the shooting sports as well.

They are well built. Mine has never jammed and is fairly accurate. I don't use it for home defense because I have total different guns for that, but if I ever had to I wouldn't be worried about it jamming or anything. It's cheap to shoot (9mm) so I've shot it a lot at the range and never had a problem. Made in the US and lifetime warranty. But if she was shooting a full sized Glock model, the grip and "handling" is totally different, as are the looks.
