Cheap handgun, which one

Cheap, not low quality. I have $550 to spend and am looking for an accurate 9mm semi-auto pistol. The Glock 34 is top on my list right now. Since it is not a carry gun, just a range and an action pistol gun the Glock 34 looks to be the right combo. I think the long light trigger pull will help with my flinching problem.
Second on the list is the CZ 75. Looks nice but I have not been able to find one to rent.

I'd say G34 is a good choice, especially if it is for range use. CZ 75B is good too, but for range job G34 is just good.

The GLOCK 34 is a great pistol, I bought mine last year and have been very happy with it. I've only got about a thousand rounds through it but it has been dead reliable so far and accuracy is better than I am. I've not changed a thing on it and don't intend to until I have a problem.

I am in Walnut Creek, Bay Area. I have fondled both pistols and like the CZ trigger better, but the sight radius and weight is much nicer on the Glock. Thanks for the responses, keep them coming!

I have a 220 in .45 and a X-Five Comp. in 9mm. The 226 is nice but too similar to the 220 in feel, just looking for something different.

In the bay area I don't know where you would find a Glock 34 for 550 bucks. Your looking at 600-650.

If you have 550 I'd go with a Beretta 92 series pistol. Cheap as 500 new and can't be beat, fun and reliable. And dam accurate to give a Sig a run for it's money.

Another vote for CZ handguns. They are very well made guns. I'd suggest that you go to your local store and see which one fits you best. Looking at pics on the Internet only helps to a certain extent.

(I think you can also affix a bayonet to some of their guns. Not sure about the legality or the function, but thought I'd throw it out there )

I know a thing or two about guns. I humbly suggest that you buy a used SIG 228, 229, or 226. Do NOT buy a CPO. A large percentage of these "certified pre-owned" pistols are beat-up police trade ins that have been abused badly by their users. These handguns are refinished, maybe a spring or two replced, and then shipped out. The refinishing is often of poor workmanship and mechanical wear, worse.

If you are a bit patient, you will easily find people wanting to sell a P228, P229, or P226 used for around 500. shipping will be about $25, and your FFL will be about 35 - 55. If PPT, your total would be $535 OTD.

VERY often these guns are shot very little, almost always less than 1000 rounds. They will often come with night sights, and hogue grips that you may or may not care for.

Sac Armoury is closing - they have Glocks & Berettas, why not give them a try. Maybe Contra Costa or Canyon has a good deal.

I vote for going to a range and try shooting all of the aforementioned guns and then pick the one or two you shoot best. Then wait until you see one on sale or PPT.

Ditto what virulosity said. I have had some serious changes of heart after shooting guns that others raved about.
That said. You can't go wrong with a Glock!
