    Fake Suppressor

I've always loved the look of a suppressor on handguns and would love to put one on my Sig. If I order a threaded barrel, remove the threads, and somehow find a way to install a fake can on it BUT still be able to remove the barrel and swap it out with my factory one would I be in the clear or do you see a pre-dawn ATF raid in my near future?

BATFE does not care if you have a threaded barrel for your pistol in CA.

Possession of a threaded barrel for a handgun is legal in CA.

A threaded barrel installed on a semi-auto pistol that accepts detachable magazines is illegal in CA. [PC 12276.1(a)(4)(A)]

Not sure how this would work out, I am just floating this idea but you could look into threading the barrel and permanently attaching a 3 lug adapter. Then you would kill the thread issue and could readily attach and detach your fake 3 lug suppressor.

Wouldn't the lugs prevent the barrel from being removed from his SIG?

if you went the permanent route you wouldnt be able to field strip it for cleaning.

Suppose so. Guess that is what I get for posting at 12:30

Get an extended barrel, machine a groove around the circumference somewhere close to the end, then use a set screw(s) through the fake suppressor to hold it in place.

              Something like this:

....but yes, I'd say this is asking for some sort of trouble. I have an acquaintence who spent some time in the pen for building a suppressor (he runs a machine shop and did it many years ago just for fun and for shooting quietly on his own property). It would be pretty hard to know whether yours was real or fake and it would suck to get arrested and have to go through the time and expense necessary to prove that it's fake.

Thanks for all of the replies. Jeremy, that is something along the lines of what I was thinking, but if you think that the fake can will get me in trouble then I'll forget it. I just didn't know how it was possible to hold it onto the gun without being illegal or having the ability to be field stripped.
