Taurus model confusion

I have an old (~15yrs) Taurus 689 in .357. Apparently Taurus is no longer using that model designation. I'm finding that holster manufacturers don't commonly reference this older model number.

I could be wrong on the following, but aren't most Taurus revolvers copies of S&W offerings? If so which S&W is the Taurus a copy of?

Does anyone know what the current model designation of this wheel gun might be?

Take the gun to your favorte gun shop and ask them to help you select a holster. They will pull them off the rack and just go by fit.
I had to do this with a CZ Pistol I had. Turns out the holster I needed was made for a particular Sig model.
BTW, your gun looks like a Colt Python. I am not aware of any S&W models that came with a vented rib.

I should add that my goal here is to buy (online) a hunting carry holster for the weapon. The shops around here don't seem to keep such things in stock. Hence my need to approximate as closely as possible, the current Taurus model designation or an equivalent S&W model.

How many shots does it hold? If it's six, it's likely a K-oid. If 7, might be more L-ish.

I've considered a cross-draw setup, but may be leaning toward a chest holster or bandolier type.
