Switching Slides on Different Caliber Glocks

To all the Glock experts out there:

I have a G22 RTF and a 2nd Gen G17 (hard chromed slide and polished barrel from Enterprise Arms). I like the grip on the RTF, and want use the G17 slide on it. Other than than the ejector and magazine, do I need to do anything else?

I already have a KKM barrel conversion on my G22 from 40 S&W to 9mm, and it cycles perfectly and I never had to change my ejector for it. Will this be the same case for these different generation slides? Or will I actually have to change the ejector?

    Thanks ahead of time.

It may, or may not run, without changing the extractor and ejector. Try if first, not for carry, of course.

Not 100% sure what you are asking in the second part, but for your first question, you should be able to interchange the slides, as the frames allow for that.

What I don't understand, is which caliber do you want to shoot from which gun? The new G22-frame-with-G17-slide gun will shoot 9mm only, and you won't have to change out any parts, except you will need to use a 9mm magazine. You will not be able to shoot 40S&W out of this gun.

The new G17-frame-with-G22-slide gun will shoot 40S&W with the original G22 barrel, and will probably shoot 9mm just fine with your 40-9 conversion barrel, as long as you use 9mm magazines. It will have a 40S&W ejector, but lots of people have commented that their 40S&W ejector works just fine with 9mm, and some have reported problems. So if you want 100% Glock reliability, you would need to change out the ejector.

I hope that helps, I think I went through all the possible combinations.

Why would you need to switch slides if you already have a conversion barrel?

I also have a Glock 22 RTF and kkm 40-9 and I have had zero issues after 5000+ rounds.

I just switch barrels back and forth.

Additionally you can use your .40cal mags for most 9mm ammo.

I'm thinking the OP likes the looks of the hard chrome slide, but the feel of the RTF frame.

Not usually; and if the OP has Large-Capacity Magazines, 9mm often won't stay in the magazine past about 12 rounds or so, they actually pop out of the feed lips. Besides, a new magazine is like twenty bucks. It's not like they are rare or expensive.

I'm a little confused on this as well. THe 9mm and .40 cal Glocks have pretty much the exact same frame so you can swap an entire slide from one to the other, use the appropriate mag and you're good to go.

I do it all the time with my G21 as I also have a G20 slide.

9mm Glock frames and .40 Glock frames have a difference to them. Their ejector is different, and you should not interchange calibers on the frames without having that part replaced.

Uhhh, you mean slides and not frames right? The ejector is obviously not in the frame.

To the OP again, you can't reliably just swap out the barrel and shoot 9mm from a .40 slide and vice versa.

Just for clarification: I want to swap slides on the frames. Turo is correct, I love the look of the hard chrome, but love the feel of the RTF.

The second part of my OP was about the ejector. I use a KKM 40 S&W to 9mm on my G22 RTF and it cycles flawlessly on over 200 rounds so far without having to change the ejector. I was told that I needed to do so to avoid any type of failures.

Ejectors are in the trigger housing of the frame. I think what you're talking about aermotor, is the extractor.

You can swap the slides, but be aware that a normal GLOCK barrel in 9MM might not run 100%.

The problem is the EJECTOR in the frame. On the GLOCK 22 frame the EJECTOR is straight. On the GLOCK 17 the EJECTOR is slightly bent to the right. The reason it is bent to the right is because the 9MM is smaller diameter (in the same frame) and the EJECTOR it made to reach the shell casing (and trip it out of the open slide). So a normal GLOCK 9MM barrel will not work well on the GLOCK 22 Frame.

However, Lonewolf and KKM solve this problem of different EJECTORs (9MM to .40) be actually manufacturing the 9MM barrel 'OFF CENTER' so the hole is to the LEFT towards the straight EJECTOR of the GLOCK 22 and 23 frames.

Look close and you will see the conversion barrel hole is to the left a little bit.

So run the 9mm conversion barrel (with mags) on the G22 frame and it should be fine.

A video that explains that here:

You can just remove the slide with everything on it (barrel, spring, etc) and just swap it with the other gun. The G17 and G22 are identical in every way except the barrel on the G22 is not as thick since it's the same OD as the 9mm one, and the extractor and ejector is different. Of course the magazine is different too, but that's a given.

Yes, the ejector is different, however the .40 ejector works on the 9mm round.
