    GLOCK C-models, pros and cons?

what say you Calgunners? what are the added benefits and/or drawbacks with Glocks C-model pistols?

does anyone here use it for home defense?

input from anyone here that has shot an extensive amount or owned them would be greatly appreciated

    thanks

I too would like to know the benefits of having a factory compensator on a Glock. Never fired one so I don't know. What are the differences in feel and performance between the standard and C-models?

I have a G17C and love it. Cuts out a lot of the snap with almost no vertical flamage like everyone that doesnt own one will tell you about. Sight stays bright until you fire about 300 rounds, then you are forced to wipe off a small amount of powder residue with your finger.

All Pros with the only Con being the extra cost. But if you want the cooler toys you have to give up a bit more cashola.

That is to funny!! I was just going to start a thread on the same subject. I want the G22 Gen4 and was curious as to the C Model??? I have all my favorite hand guns and never considered a Glock until I started shopping for all the cool holsters like the new Crye as well as Safari's in stock. Now my only question is the C. Is it a no brainier and state of the art?? I hope this thread gets some Glock experts to chime in.

          I have a g-20, a g-20c and a g-20sf.

          Pros:
In my experience there is a drastic reduction in muzzle flip and perceived recoil. I would venture to say roughly 40% reduction in overall perceived recoil and flip. This has always allowed me to have very quick follow-up shots. Less fatigue from shooting over long periods of time thanks to the reduced perceived recoil.

          Negatives:
Your gun will sound extra loud due to the ports on the top of the slide and barrel. You will lose a little velocity due to gasses escaping from the porting. Should you do a lot of shooting from the hip like me, you may find your hat tends to fly off your head (once again thanks to the porting). There is the night shooting issue of going flash-blind from the gasses being sent up and out from the porting. This is true in part, but I have found all my defense handguns are both loud and blinding in the dead of night.

          Side Note:
My G-20c also tends to shave lead and copper at the ports causing high degrees of inaccuracy after 50-100 rounds (depending on the ammo). I have never experienced this on any glock but my own. My gun was sent off to Glock for examining, and after shooting only 10 rounds in a clean gun they decided I didn’t know how to shoot.

          Hope this helps.

              Noisy. I"m a 9mm shooter, so I don't feel I need a comp.

+1 . They are not ideal for HD/LEOS. If your gonna plink in the daytime go for it.

cons: shooting from close combat/weapon retention position will burn your eyebrows.

For me a Comp is not valuable until you get up to a Smith .460 or .500.

You won't need a comp for 10MM or anything less. I dislike the crud you have to clean out of those ports every 100 rounds; I don't like the 'flaming dirt' in your face if the wind isn't right. Nor the smoke going up your nose.

I'd rather have a clean barrel with no holes.

I will admit I enjoy shooting hot 9MM thru my GLOCK 35 with a lonewolf barrel. Why hot?..because normal ammo sometimes doesn't produce enough power (because of all the holes in the barrel) to run the Slide everytime.

But for fun, not self defense or Zombie killing. For that I want a perfectly long barrel with max speed and no holes.

My 13 year old daughter can shoot my Stock Glock 20 10MM without a problem. So can we gentleman.

I'm sad to see you've given up on your G30. No need to go to the other end of the spectrum, however. By simply switching to 9mm, you'll be fighting less recoil. A plain jane G17 is just about as perfect as Glock gets.

that was one of the reasons, and 9mm is considerably cheaper than .45acp
