Used Beretta 96 .40.

Two weeks ago I picked up a used Beretta 96 .40 cal. I have only had a Glock 17 and Sig Sauer P226 and this was a step up. I got this sucker for a sweet deal from a trade in, only 350 and while it had holster wear this thing rocks. The feed ramp, locking block and barrel look brand new aside from the wear on the handle, trigger guard and outer barrel. This thing is rock solid. I have yet to take it to the range but love how smooth the controls and slide move. Mine was made in 1998 but the thing feels like its hardly been used!

I highly recommend one of these, my buddy says I'll love the weight for the .40 cal recoil which I never really minded, but it can only help. Anyone else had experience with a 96?

Since it's used be sure to break it down, check parts/function, clean and lube it. Also, check the locking block to make sure it isn't cracked. Next you need to get a barrel and mag for a 92 so you can also shoot cheaper 9mm (-- though I have used my 96 mags and 9mm rounds feed fine except for the last one) . Happy shooting!

River City Gun Exchange has quite a few 96 trade ins in stock. I'm not sure of their pricing though but their trade ins tend to be priced very well. -Ben

Yea I got it for 400 flat. Love the damn thing. I have shot the 92 a lot but am glad I stepped up from the 9mm platform to the .40.

I've got a 96 Elite, which is a G series (no safety, decocker only), has a brigadier slide, dovetailed sights, and a stainless barrel.

I love the thing. The extra heft eats up the recoil.

I'm not going to say it's a "step up" from a Sig226, i'd say they're both great machines (assuming you've got the .40/.357sig combo).

As others have said: Check the locking block. That's the first part to fail in the gun (and usually the ONLY).

Get your magazines from CDNN. Beretta factory 10rd mags for 17-18 bucks (the extra dollar is if you want the Elite's rubber baseplates). Just wait for them to have a weekend sale where shipping is 6$ flat, otherwise it's 10$ flat for the order. The mag springs WILL be stiff, and even with an UpLula loader the 10th will be a PITA to load.

Oh I just meant step up in terms of caliber. Sig sauer as far as I'm concerned is the cadillac of pistols, and no its a west german sig 9mm. In any case, I got a factory phosphated mag I wasn't to impressed with so I bought a spare mecgar mag in the mean time. I love the fact its aready got night sights, no extra gun smithing time!

Oh and got a spare locking block as well and recoil spring in a kit. The locking block looks brand new honestly.
