Single Shot Exemption SP89K Cone...Is it Possible?

I recently read a guy on Calguns say that you could not import the SP89K clones under the single shot exemption because the barrel was not long enough??? Then another guy instantly replied that this was FUD. It did not get cleared up in that thread and it seemed like none of the parties knew what the heck they were talking about.

Is it true that it can't be done? If so how are people doing the Mac-10 and Mini-Uzi that are much shorter?

I'm looking for replies from actual experts rather than just people who "think" they know. Guy's who can cite the actual law and provide it here. Thanks much.

Also, does anybody know of a Maglock for these that doesn't suck? The Raddlock is rather difficult to install and the Prince50 solution that I used on a G3 completely locked the magazine into place and was a lock not a bullet button. I need something the seller can install with ease and won't gripe about doing.

I'll make the single shot sled myself by completely blocking off a 10-rd magazine and send it to the seller before he ships it.

You're dealing with a couple issues on these. 1. the Roster 2. California Assault weapon law.

First, the roster: original SP89's have 5.7" barrels and you need 6" plus to single shot exempt one. So you need a sub-caliber barrel insert like Valkyrie is doing on the P7's or you need a SP89 clone with a mp5k 3 lug barrel with a 3 lug flash hider permanently attached.

Second, for AW compliance you could have the pistol shipped with the lower seperated from the upper which is the serial numberred portion. No constructive AW's in California so it would seem to not be illegal while disassembled, and HK sp89's are not listed firearms nor are their clones.

It would appear theoretically possible to have an unassembled clone shipped to someone like Valkyrie Arms, have a mag lock installed prior to assembly and have the barrel modified in one of the above fashions in order to single-shot it.

By sub-caliber barrel insert you mean a drop in 22lr conversion kit? That would be interesting.

You'd need to discuss it with Valkyrie Arms, and see what they're doing on the P7 and see if they could apply that to the SP89 clone.

I'm not sure if they're using the sub-caliber insert on the P7 to convert to .22lr or more likely they're just converting it down to a smaller center fire calibre where the new barrel fits inside the original barrel and chamber.
