I've been hiding in the shadows reading calguns and saving for a long time and am about there money wise. I just had a few questions for some people that have bought from Springfields custom shop. Do they have a way of doing it custom and still keeping it CA legal or is my only option SSE? If that is the only option am I better of just buying on a on roster gun? I was going to see is they could build me the MC Operator with the full length rail in stainless. Never seen one and thought it would be awesome. Any ideas? I'm located in SoCal and the SSE thread is mostly NorCal shops doing the SSE there are no local shops that I could see.

Could they add the full rail? in that case should I just buy the CA roster MC operator in black and have it stripped to stainless or hard chromed? is that even possible?

Well you can't convert a carbon steel MC Operator to a stainless but they can likely TIG weld a light rail to most any frame and they can hard chrome carbon steel. Not sure if they can TIG weld a full rail to a non-rail 1911. As for anything else you can imagine doing to a 1911, they can do that but it will cost money. For your purposes, if the stainless mil-spec is on the CA list you can take legal possession of it then get on their waiting list to have them customize it to the hilt.

The SA Custom Shop will pretty much do whatever you want them to...doesn't matter if it's listed or not. Give Dave Williams an email or call (an email would likely be better).

I'm having them do a full house build off a Mil-Spec right now....was due to be finished abput 20 days ago so I'm expecting it any day.

Just to give you an example of how flexible they are, they're doing golfball treatment to the front strap and mainspring housing as well as using a Wilson BP grip safety, 10-8 mag release/catch and EGW everything else (minus the hammer and SACS barrel). The sights are a 10-8 rear and a gold bead front....they're also untercutting the trigger guard/front strap exactly as I described and modifying the custom textured ms housing for an internal lanyard loop.

Tell em what you want, the only limit (mainly) is what you are willing to pay.

Its not something I would do right away I will put a 1000rnds through it atleast before I did anything to it. Just like to have this stuff in mind while shooting.

If you want a full rail buy a pistol with one already. Then have it modified however you like. To try to duplicate a full rail with a non-full rail frame would be extremely expensive.

You can't convert carbon steel to stainless but you can have it hard-chromed/metalloy etc which are probably equivalent finishes to stainless for corrosion resistance anyway. Stainless will rust with enough abuse.
