These days I do "compete" in Cowboy Action Shooting. And, even though the "gammers" have arrived, I can still go out and play cowboy to my hearts content. This will likely change, in fact with the "wild bunch shoots" it already is, for now it's still somewhat "unrealistic", but in a good way.
    what is a gammer?

Not sure if you are being facetious, but he was referring to a "gamer."

Personally, I don't consider gamer to be a derogatory term, since IDPA is...well...a game. I don't understand people who complain that others will do everything they can within the rules to win. IDPA is not training, and was never designed to be training. It is a game created around some defensive principles. But it is still a game, with the point being to win.

Additionally, the primary founder of the sport is still the man that owns it. If he wasn't content with the current status and direction, he would change things.

I've been trying to compete! but for the past two months, and the following 3 months all the Sacramento IDPA chapters intro classes on the first saturday of each month are on days that I'm working. Can't justify taking a day of vacation time right now to go shooting, would cost me almost 1000rds of .45! switch up the days!!

I don't compete anymore, because of work, money and lack of time.

I've competed a couple of times. Both confirmed a solid lack of skills. The main reason is time and money. I typically spend my extra money on training classes. And one of the competitions was very SLOW; but it was very social. If I knew the people, it would have been better.

In Los Angeles there is an official USPSA last sunday of every month at Gopher Flats (Right near 210 and 118). We usually have about 80 shooters. 8-12 on Sunday with 6 stages. the best part is it is a great group who welcome beginners and show them how to do it safely.
