conforming foam handgun case

Anyone ever seen any foam or precut or otherwise type of foam that I could use to construct a sturdy conforming foam insert for handgun case?

You know what I mean guys ... like if you had a foam insert you could press your piece into it, like a factory job of sorts, and form an exact outline of your weapon. Then it stiffens and you've got yourself a form-fitted carry case?

I need to make one so that I can carry in the car without them bumping and grinding on one another.

Anyone ever done this? Anyone got any ideas on how to make one that looks good and will last?

Here is a starlight case with "hex-a-pluck", hexagonal instead of square cut foam.

I have pistols in both halves of the case, so I made a divider out of closed cell foam from a sleeping pad to keep the guns from "grinding."

I like to go to camera shops to buy my cases. Almost all camera cases can be used to hold pistols and most come with a foam you can customize to fit what ever guns you have.

Another option might be some of the 'modeling foam' like my kids play with. Guess you might call it Playdoh 2. It's soft and light when it cures and still has some squish to it.

i was lucky and and i bought this nice case for like 25 bux from the factory

Myself, I bought a doctor's case sort of thing, which has four removable soft pockets. Each of those pockets is a zippered compartment, into which I put a handgun. That was my solution to ensure I wasn't having the guns rattle around. Until then, I was using the hard cases the guns came in.

I saw one post by a guy who used archery taget type foams. He traced guns first with pencils/pens then routed out the needed space in his strong aluminum case/brief case. It's lot of work to be precise but once done it should last a while. He called the foam "ethafoam"
