    Replaced re-coil spring. Question?

S&W sent me a free re-coil spring for my 4506. Very nice of them. Question? I noticed the new spring is about 1/2-3/4" longer. Everything works (without firing it). Normal?

    Thanks

    That's why you're replacing it...

    I say normal.

If it has a small & large end, the small end goes toward the rear.

      ^ Yup.

The old one is tired and collapsed a bit.

Is it a double spring?(spring within a spring). I have a 4013 and have been thinking about changing the recoil spring(its a double). Never had the chance to breakdown a 4506. Cool gun.

          Single spring.

ProMag still has a few left (once gone, their gone) of the 10rd mags. I grabbed two for $16 each + $3 ship.

Thanks! I assume the old one was oooold

Both sides seem to be the same size.

Yes that is normal. My new 4506 factory recoil springs are much longer than the worn down spring in the gun. It's a pain in the arse to put them in and once they are in, chamber checks are an even bigger pain. Shoots much nicer and brass lands in a neat pile with new springs. Dont know about S&W but police agencies recomend replacing them every 3-4k rounds. Now your ready to shoot some HOT +P AMMO!

Sounds good. Thanks for the heads up. I just got it. Love the gun.
