    Rugar P89 guys. Quick question

I have a question about the rugar p89. My grandfather has a P89 and I asked to see it to check her out. While fondling I noticed something that bothered me. When cocking the rugar racking while still on safe the slide back and slowly letting it forward. It doesn't fully go but when you pull or tap the slide the hammer slams home and the trigger moves. That relate concerns me.

Is this a safty feature or is this a flaw and was there a recall or anything with these? I just want to make sure my grandfather has a properly working fire arm for his HD weapon.

I'm assuming it's a safety feature but I just want to be sure.

Tried mine and the slide go's fully forward and the hammer drops (safety on).

Just a suggestion you might want to post this on the Ruger Forum:

If you are very slowly moving the slide forward, and gently easing off your holding pressure to find this "hang-up" spot, this is normal.
The last thing the slide does before it completely closes is trip the hammer drop.
This takes a little energy, which normally comes from the slide's forward momentum.

And ok that's exactly what I'm doing. So it is a safety feature. Good to know.

Right. Since the decocker/saftey lever is still in the decock position, the hammer gets cocked as the slide comes back, then decocked when it goes back forward. Normal.

Normal. The pin is out of alignment if the safety is on in any case, so you can't misfire that way, no worries.

Its normal. No worries. Btw, my Ruger p89 is 16yrs old and still rocks! Great gun and accurate too. Never had any problems with it.

I know this an old thread but let me just add that the P89 is an utterly reliable and practically unbreakable pistol. The possessor of this pistol will be well heeled in a HD/SD situation.

Its because its on safety. If you dropped the slide like its supposed to, the hammer would follow. Note, this happens with most firearms with a hammer drop safety, I see people do it with the M9 at work all the time. Dont baby it, let the SOB slam hard.

Opps. I wrote all this then noticed the date of the thread
