Colt 1911 or Sig 1911? Stupid question?

My next handgun will be a 1911. My dad has a used Colt Lieutenant Commander that has been customized. It has night sights and I hear it has been ramped. I saw it once, but not knowing much about 1911s, I didn't know what I was looking at or what has been done to it.
OTOH, I see the Sig 1911s are on sale at turners. They also have night sights.
I can probably get the colt for 1k which is what pops paid for it.
the Sigs are less. I know Sig has a good reputation. I know Colt has a good reputation when it comes to 1911s.

Also, I want a SHOOTER, not a collection piece. If the Colt has collector value I don't want it. Somehow I doubt that with the night sights though. It was probably shot at least a bit by the previous owner.

Which will be a better shooter? More reliable, and more accurate?

Or should I save up a bit more and buy a new Springfield TRP which I also like?

Colt or the TRP are a better choice for 1911's. Especially if you want to customize. You will have more options and Sig does not shoot any better than the others. External extractor is just horrid looking on any 1911 clone.

TRP with the bull barrel, should be front-heavier compared to the other twos...may help in follow up shots, and in turn help in accuracy...

My SigArms GSR has been more reliable than my 68 colt commander. But there is 40 years difference in the 2.

get the colt if you wanna just have a a nice gun that cost a pretty penny, not going to shoot very often, and will want to sell down the line.

get the sig if you want something that has WAY more features for the $$$ and you wont feel bad beating it cause its not a colt!!!

i love all my SIG 1911s cant wait tell the compact combat comes out. commander length slide and barrel with a officer fram, front serations, undercut trigger guard (usually only on SUPER high end 1911s!) night sights, right around $1000 all those features on a colt is gonna run you closer to $1500. unless you get a good deal on a used.

dont get me wrong. i love colt, your just paying for the name if you just want a shooter. the SIG will shoot just as good. ive owned 2.
              see, mine get used

I love the picture, and I also love my Sig. I have owned many others, but my Sig will never be traded or sold. You get a very smoth action with great fit and finish. Like stated above it would cost you a lot more for the same thing that you get with a base model Sig.
