    High Standard 1911

I'm thinking of picking up one of the High Standard 1911 that D&D Ranch has for sale. Are they any good? Will it be a decent platform to upgrade? Your thoughts are appreciated.

High Standard now is like Springfield; same name as the old company but completely different products.

I'd read a little on the 1911 forums before I bought one.

Is this the same company that made the "High Standard" branded OLL's sold by SJGE (before they lost their FFL)?

The High Standard is a fine starting point for experimentation. I have an RIA that I am very happy with. I just keep messing with it....and it just keeps eating ammo. They are the same gun. You might want to check into what type of mag comes with the HS. I understand they are shipping with cheap mags to save $$. And at that price you might look for an RIA. Ivan is local and has a better business reputation. You should be able to find an RIA for under $400.

edit: And when I say "better business reputation" I am referring to High Standard not D&D's Ranch who seem like fine upstanding people who have supported members of this board from the beginning.

I paid $300 delivered and dros'd for mine, granted that was last year from www.classicarms.us, but I think Classic still sells em for $350. If you look you should be able to find one for that or less.

I had a High Standard 1911 for a year. Loved it, worked great, couldnt beat the price.

Only reason i got rid of it was that a buddy who has a wife and kid in the house only had a .22 revolver for home defense. so i sold it to him cheap.

Back to the High Standard 1911... they're made by Armscor, same makers of the Rock Island Armory 1911s.. so my question is are they exactly the same? Chrome lined barrels?

not all of them are made by RIA.
it is not the same HS as before.. kinda likda SA
It is not the exact same gun as the RIA.

go to the 1911 forum, RIA employees work there and apparently HS isnt so HS
