    1911 can my 1911 shoot +p ++p ammo?

    can I shoot +P or ++P ammo?

    I Just started the The jail time on my used Para P 14 today what do I need? upgrades? spare parts to have on hand? what are the GUNS do's and dont's? anything i need to know about 1911s? (It is my first 1911)

    my questions:

    -Big question how hard is it to strip it then re-blue it or just paint it? or just blue it? (I want it to look nice)
    -Should I get new springs or pins?
    -Do I need to upgrade anything to make it better? anything basic that needs to be done to it?
    -Any spare parts I need to keep on hand?
    -Im looking for CHEAP grips because it has the big wraparound ones and I dont like them, so were can I get cheap grip? and will all 1911 grips fit it?
    -will all 1911 parts work for the p 14-45?

          Ammo, a kydex straight drop holster and mag pouch, a trainers belt, and your first defensive shooting course from a local shooting school. And a good tooth brushing before the course. Because you are gonna have a really big smile on your face.

            Learn how to do a complete take down for cleaning. You may not need to right away but I'm sure you'll want to eventually. It's actually quite easy.

            And lots of ammo.

              Pay attention to the reassembly process until you are proficient at it. I scratched up the barrel bushing and front of the receiver by trying to force it back on in the wrong order. Why do you think they call them 'idiot' marks?

                Is the p14 take down the same as a single stacked 1911?

                        It field strips the same as most 1911's. Some of the frame parts, most notably the trigger, magazine catch, main spring housing and the pins are specific to the Para P14. Re-blue, or paint is a personal preference. You decide.

                        You should fire it and see if you have any problems with it before getting new springs.

                        Nothing NEEDS to be upgraded, you may want to put some aftermarket sights (I personally prefer Dawson Precision) on it, but again it's up to you.

                        Brownells has all kind of grips for the P14. They are specific to the P14, regular single stack grips won't fit. You'll see the P14's have tabs on the rear to cover the trigger bow cut out. I prefer Alumagrips, but they are not cheap.

                        Most of the parts will work from a standard 1911, with the exception of the parts I talked about above.

                        I have one that I shoot the crap out of. I really like the gun. When I hold a standard 1911, that feels strange. You just have to get used to it. You'll find that most holsters made for a standard 1911 will require some modification to work with the P14 due to it being a lot wider behind the trigger, and below the slide, due to the double stack magazine well.

                          Oh, and the barrel is specific to the Para. It has a built in feed ramp that fits in a slot in the frame, rather than half of the feed ramp being the frame and the other half being the barrel, like a standard 1911. You'll see what I mean when you take it apart.

                          The thumb safety is different too. It has to fit the wider frame.

                            I just asked in the 'How to section' to paint or reblue are they both things I can do at home?
