    XD Service Vs. XD Tactical

    Couple of questions.

    1. Is there in the inner workings between the pistols. Mainly recoil springs? I heard there was but never field stripped the tactical.

    2. Accuracy wise is there a big difference.

diff recoil springs, tactical uses a two peice system, service a captive system.

accuracy....not really, but longer sight radius.

Same basic gun. Service uses a captive guide rod/recoil spring. Tactical uses a solid guide rod with a non-captive recoil spring (the 9/40 actually uses 1911 recoil springs, but the 45 uses a different size).

Tactical gives you more weight at the muzzle, and a longer sight radius. Service offers less mass, so is theoretically faster to bring into play and transition between targets.

My preference is the Tactical, but is really only that, a preference. I recommend shooting them both and buying the one you like better.

I have .45 in Tactical and the 9mm in Service. I like them both but Im more accurate with the .45. I dont know if its the fact thats its longer or because Ive had it a lot longer and more practice shooting it.

Honestly, I was having a conundrum when I was going to buy an XD. Service or Tactical? I went to the range to rent both and as an XD45 lover I hated both XD9's and that's when I discovered the Glock 19. That's personal preference, but they both did shoot a bit differently so I'd go to the range and test them out to see which you like better.

i am wondering, would the longer Barrel delivery more energy on the target?

Not enough to likely make any real difference.

+1 on tactical but like Gryff said, shoot them both and see which one you are better with. I love my xd9 tactical. I wish the xdm was available here (i know single shot guys lol) cause i got to shoot one when i went to nevada last month and all i can say is OMG lol.
