    1st shot problem with BHP

I have a Browning hi Power that ALWAYS shoots the first round (after a magazine reload) about 10" high. The remaining rounds in the magazine land within the 9 ring at 25 yards. Makes no difference which of the 4 magazines (2 original and 2 aftermarket) I use. With a full magazine, I tried shooting 2 shots, removed/loaded the same magazine, shot 2 more shots and the 1st shot is always high. Any ideas what the problem may be? All shots are fired from sandbag rest....

My initial thought would be to replace the recoil spring. You may not be achieving proper barrel lock-up when the slide is slowed by feeding the top round in a fully loaded magazine.

How many rounds through your pistol and has the spring been replaced before? Are you loading the first round by using the slide stop, or by sling-shot? Sling-shotting generally gives more slide velocity for first round feeding.

"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

"While Ruger DA revolvers may be built like a tank, they have the aesthetics of one also,
although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"
