    Magazine problem on a PPK/S

I have two magazines for my PPK/S. One looks like brushed stainless steel and the other is nickel plated. Both magazines are reliable but one drops freely from the gun and the other has to be pulled out when empty. I can't find any dimensional differnces that I cannot attribute to tolerances. Both magazine are made by Walther. The slide on the gun says it was made by Interarms if that matters.

Normally this wouldn't be a big deal but my wife has expressed an interest in it as her gun and I want to make sure she will have at least two solidly reliable magazines. I just don't know where to start looking for the problem. If I have to buy a new one I want to know what to look for.

    Any ideas?

Th Euros (military) prefer that the mags not drop out of the gun.
This reduces the chance of mag loss if the mag release is pushed accidentally.
American / competiton style is the mags drop free when the release is pushed.
You likely have one of each type, both are correct.
The non-drop free might actually be the better primary mag.

I didn't know that and my wife might prefer the one that has to be manually removed. Is there any way to know which is which if I order new one?

As an owner of many Walthers i dont believe there are a drop free mag and a non drop free mag, one may have a slighly wider wider mag body than the other, even a few thousands of an inch might make a difference. A common rub point for the mags are the grips,, try removing them and see if both mags will drop free, if they do, one of the mags are rubbing on the grips. Find the high point and file it down. For further info, try www.waltherforums.com lots of help there. JT
