Advice for Front Sight - What to bring?

I'm going to Front Sight June 24-27 for the 4-Day Defensive Handgun class.

What advice do you guys have in terms of gear and clothing to bring?

I'm going to bring an Up-Lula for loading magazines, and I know I need to hydrate like crazy, but what else do you guys recommend?

Hat, shades, sunscreen, holster (if Serpa, disable lock), Camelback or water bottles,, comfortable shoes, snacks, lots of ammo. You will have a blast!

As many magazines as you can reasonably carry.
An open mind and a willingness to try something different.
A notepad would be a good idea, assuming you also have a pencil or pen.
A camera ... you'll kick yourself later if you don't bring one.

You don't need more than 600rds of ammo.

              Good sunscreen

              They have water for you

Bring as many mags as you can carry 5 would probably be ideal but it's doable with 3.

I wish I had hi caps as they have you under load them by 2 so my 10 rounders only held 8.

I wish I had light weight tactical pants with pockets instead of jeans and I wish I had a shooting vest for concealment instead of the long sleeve shirt I brought.

Good protective sunglasses instead of just shooting glasses

Electronic hearing protection with extra batteries

OP, sorry if I hijack the thread but it still pertains to what to bring to FS: does it make sense to train with what we will use in CA or does it make sense to train with hi cap mags?

Is there a reason you say this?

Use what you will have at home. An in case you haven't been informed, electronic hearing protection is now required. If you don't have your own they will be able to rent you some. I will be out there for the rope's course on the same date's as your handgun course. It's going to be really hot so bring high quality sun-block and sports drinks.

Have fun and learn a lot!

Is there a bar to go to afterwards? I imagine I'll be wiped, but a beer with good company would be divine.

I have read that Serpa holsters with level 1 retention are not allowed at FS. For the life of my I do not understand this policy. The Serpa holsters are recommended by a lot of the top shooters because they force you to have perfect finger placement when you draw. I assume FS has a good reason for this policy. I look forward to finding out what it is.

The policy against Serpa holsters stems from people being overwhelmed by the amount of information and then forgetting to be mindful of their trigger fingers. The result was several people sending a round down their legs. They had five years of recommending Serpa holsters with no accedents and then several incedents in short succession.

                        I hope the info helps!

What happens with the Serpa is people get under pressure and push HARD to release the lock and they are drawing they continue to press hard and then then pistol lifts out the holster with them still pushing hard on the holster only there isn't any holster left and the finger then slams down on the trigger.

Because they do not allow Serpa type holster with the release mechanism unless you can disable it. Read the pre-class material for their explanation.
