    1911 refinish

I have a smith and wesson 1911pd, I love the gun and it has been ultra reliable. However it seems to be prone to rusting. If I am staying at the ranch for a weekend and leave it in my truck then sometimes I will see rust starting to form. My question is, are there ways to refinishing a 1911? Ed Brown has a really tuff finish I think they call it Gen 3 finish. I know I can just call them to check, but are there any suggestions.

Wipe down your 1911 when you are not using it. And use sheath, It works great for me.

Durabake parkerized worked great on my Golani. Try it out if you want to go CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP.

There's a whole lot of options out there but as far as coatings go, Ionbond DLC is about as tough as it gets and will give you all the corrosion resistance you need.

Until you can get the refinish try a wipedown with CorrosionX. It's pretty tenacious and stays where ya put it. I've had good luck with it on my saltwater fishing gear.

I've used this also on guns I don't use much and it seems to work good

Can you show a pic of yours? and give a review of his quality. I've seen his work online, but I wanted to get a local perspective of his work and quality.

+1 on Ionbond if you want something that will continue to look like new after a lot of use. Mine has been in and out of kydex many times which has the reputation of being particularly hard on finishes. No signs of wear from the holster, or the barrel hood area from shooting for that matter. Still looks pristine.

I also have one finished in Black T which I really havent put through enough paces to comment on durability yet but it sure looks nice. The barrel hood area which is also coated is already showing signs of wear from the shooting I have done.

If you want something corrosion resistant, ion bond, hard chrome, and black T are the way to go. Unlike other baked on finishes, black t permeates the pores of the metal giving it excellent corrosion resistance even after the top coat wears.
