Help me spend $1000

[Dark Mod]

I want a new handgun for my birthday, and am planning to spend about $1000 (maybe a bit more or less). Ive narrowed it down to 4 choices and cant seem to decide which

- Nice Kimber (desert warrior if i can find one)
- S&W 454 / S&W 500
- Ruger alaskan 454
-Beretta 92f plus a shotgun

What do you guys think? I reload so im not really worried about ammo prices.

Cobble together a few MORE bucks though, and get a Springfield Operator. And this from the man who owns TWO Kimbers (but I ALSO own a SA1911 A-1 ).

I just bought a Ruger Alaskan 454, s&w 460 in 5 inch barrel and a s&w 500 in 4 inch. I've only fired the Ruger and me likey I kind of regretting the 460 only bec the ammo is too much but it shoots the 454 and 45 lc

Good call, although the Springfield TRP looks much nicer to me. Are any of these guns on the roster?

SA TRP OP full rail is on the roster, but it's $1800 if you can even find one. So it's more than a "little" over $1K.

MC OP is slightly less, if you can deal with the OD frame.

I wouls suggest a 1911 or CZ-75 SP-01.

My suggestion would be a SA Loaded. Should be around 800 out the door. Leaves you some left over for quality mags and ammo.

I would get the SW 460...You said you reload so ammo price doesnt matter. It is flatter shooting then the 500 and from what I have seen; top loads for both are equal in power; but the 460 can easily shoot accurately to 300 yards, while the 500 cant. You can also shoot .454 and .45 LC.

To me its the only gun that isn't "settling." (No offence meant towards anyone.) In the 1911 category especially...I'm the type of gun owner who only gets the best. When I get a 1911 it wont be a Kimber or a Springfield...It will be a Nighthawk, Les, or something similar.

When I got my Beretta, I got an Elite II Brigadier. When I got my shotgun I got a Saiga 12. I will probably never own Rugar, because they just aren't up to my standards. Get the 460 or 500. You wont regret it, and its a gun you hardly ever see. Its one quality firearm that is (in that category) the best money can buy.

I always try to go for highest possible quality rather then highest possible quantity...but thats just me...

The intention of the gun is a toy. Much like all my other guns, i only shoot steel or paper for fun on the weekends

Of the guns on your list I vote for the Kimber. I have owned a Beretta and would not own one again (unless it were one of many handguns in a collection). I currently own a Kimber and like it very much.

Good call, i think your starting to sway me. Especially being able to shoot long range with the 454. Its almost like a rifle round at 2000 fps. Kinda awesome

Definitely the Beretta and Shottie. Those weapons have a lot more practical use than expensive, exotic hunting weapons that are expensive to shoot (even for reloaders)
