    S&W Sigma 9mm Trigger Pull

So i bought a Sigma 9mm for my fiance and I have to say that trigger on the gun is just stupid. It's like 8 or 9 pounds of trigger pull. I was even having a hard time with it. Does anyone know if the trigger pull is adjustable? Anyone know of a good gunsmith in LA? I would use one in Orange County but I work in Culver City so it'd be easier if I could find one in LA.

    Thanks in advance.

I was going to buy one of these used at a decent price for $250 until I did my research on it and found out the trigger pull was the #1 complaint. I passed on the deal and I'm glad I did. If you bought the pistol new and plan on spending more money on a smith to do some trigger work, then you were better off buying another pistol that would suit your needs better. Just my 2 cents.

While the trigger pull on mine is heavy, I live with it since, I have other guns I use for most situations like target shooting, plinking, etc. The trigger pull can be lightened the same way a Glock's can be but, why? Unless you are going to do the work yourself, it's not really worth it.

Check the S&W forums. There are some detailed instructions on trigger jobs you can do yourself. The most common thing people do is change the striker spring to a Wolf spring. Others remove/replace the trigger return spring, but honestly, I wouldn't mess with the trigger. You can always sell it and get most of your money back to buy something else. I owned a Sigma for years, and while the trigger was heavy, it helped me with other platforms. DA pull on anything isn't a problem anymore.

The Sigma trigger is meant to be the way it is. It is a defensive pistol with a double action only trigger system.
Learn to shoot it as is, it will make you a better shot. I shoot mine quite well.
If you can't learn to shoot it sell it for something that doesn't take as much skill....

ya kno, I actually kinda like the sigma trigger. I like where it breaks, with no overtravel, and then length of pull is fine for me because its a DAO. But I wish it could be maybe 3lbs lighter or so. Still heavy, but not as much as it is right now. I shoot the gun really well, group nicely for what it is, just wish it had a SLIGHTLY lighter trigger.

This is the way I see the Sigma as well. Nothing wrong with it as it isn't a target shooting gun.

I'm not so much worried about me shooting the Sigma I didn't really have a problem with it it was just a tough trigger pull. My fiance is the one who had the problem it. She can shoot my Glock fine but could barely pull the Sigma trigger all the way. I went ahead and ordered the Striker spring from Wolff Springs so we'll see if that helps.

The trigger pull on my Sigma was atrocious, but the grit and the mechanics of the pull were what bugged me - not so much the pull. After I replaced the striker and trigger return springs the pull is still heavy (lighter than before) but its a lot smoother. It was a $20 dollar fix, and like Ksmash01 said trigger pull on almost anything doesn't phase me now.

Watch the wolf spring. I got 50%+ FTF due to light strikes.

One thing that I found, that I have never heard discussed before, is that my striker was a softer material than the internal guide rails that it slides fore and aft in. Those rails actually cut into the striker, sometimes causing: 1) an extremely hard pull (much harder than my M29 44 mag), 2) a gritty/chattery pull, 3) a non-uniform pull. I took the slide apart and stoned the sides of the striker smooth and the edges/corners of the rails so they didn't gouge the striker any more. Very nice now.

I never bothered to ask if this was to remain a defensive pistol. If so, I'd keep the factory striker spring installed.

I'd try modifying the trigger return spring, as it doesn't alter the way the FP hits the primers.

If this is going to be a range only gun, then have at it, just don't do something that can't be reversed, that may void your warranty.

Get a hand grip exerciser for your lady. That may be better for her than altering the pistol for a lighter pull. That, or trade it for a new pistol, and let her choose it.

I was going to get some snap caps and have her dry fire it over and over and over again as well. She has pretty small hands and this gun fits her very well. She has help others, Glock, M&P and XD and she said she likes this one the best. We'll see how it goes.
