Mitchell Arms American Eagle Luger, any good?

    Hi Guys,

Just curious if anybody has experience with these, and what they thought about it. I searched and found a couple threads, but nothing of great substance. Are these pistols well made? Reliable? How much is a fair market value for a specimen in Excellent condition with SS finish and 4" bbl? If I have a chance to buy one, will I kick myself for not doing it? I'd much rather have a real Luger, but those are way out of my price range. Thanks all.

I had a chance to buy one a few months back for $600 in very good shape.

Yeah, I kick myself for not jumping on it; someone else bought it while I was checking to see if it was okay.

People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

Some had functioning issues. Keep researching to see when the problems were resolved.

For $600 you can buy a VOPO Luger that at least has some charm.

          Link?
I haven't seen one for that price in quite a while; and all I've seen recently for a couple of hundred more were pretty rough.

I have the 6" Stoeger version and probably paid too much ($799.00) but what the hell, I like the look & longer barrel and the thing was still in its blue box. My understanding is that there are two "timetables" regarding the stainless Luger. First is the Mitchell Arms brand and then the Stoeger. The Mitchell supposedly had some soft metal and feeding issues and by the time Stoeger got involved all was well.

The fit & finish on the newer guns is really very good, but you can see the difference in detail compared to an original. The checkering on the mag release is different as is the checkering on the toggles, the "matte" areas on the new gun look fine and contrast but they were, I presume, a cost saving measure.

I had two minor issues with mine. Without going in to too much detail, during recoil the safety had a habit of jumping from of safe to on safe and this was due to a minor internal fitting issue, easily corrected once the cause is known. The checkered wood grips, which may or may not have been factory original, didn't sit quite flat but about 5 minutes with small chisel took care of it.

The gun feeds perfectly & shoots point of aim. I was in OR a few weeks back and put a few hundred rounds through it with no real issue, I got a few misfires with Wolf ammo only and put in a new, heavier firing pin spring just for a little extra hit. I put lighter 115 "target" loads and 124 FMJ and some JHP too, all worked the action properly.

I would say $600.00 seems a fair price for the more common 4" version, I'm happy as heck with mine.

Thanks for all the responses gents! The price is definitely right. The only problem is; it's on Consignment at Turner's, so I will have to just hope and pray that it's a reliable one, as I won't get to test drive her before buying. Guess I'll be pulling that figurative trigger. If anybody else has any comments on the weapon, my ears are fully open. Thanks again guys.

Too bad you're in OC. I have a NIB, unfired one that will be listed before too long. Stainless 4", all original, never molested.
