I'm new to the forum so I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but my question is this: Is the .45 GAP here to stay, or is it a gimmicky sort of thing that will go the way of the 10mm?

.45 GAP: Gimmicky?

A failed cartridge In my opinion
It never got off the ground. Don't buy a weapon chambered for it. Just my opinion.
Actually the 10MM is quite popular in the rest of the Country. Still.
Oh...Welcome to Cal Guns.!May the Bridges I burn light the way.

Yeah... you pretty well have it. .45GAP was a niche cartridge that didn't improve substantively over the .45ACP but did manage to fit in a 9mm/40 frame'd gun. If you have small hands and nothing but a .45 will do (unless you were to find a .46) then it's maybe appropriate but I'd just say fugg it and do a .40 instead, get more bullets and less weight.
FWIW, I'm a .45 guy. I also love 10mm. .45GAP, I don't expect to find ammo in stores in about 10 years.Comment

.45GAP Glocks are cheap to pick up used if you can find them because the ammo is so hard to come by. Stick to .45ACP or 10mm.Don't let the name fool you...Comment

welcome to calguns, I would stay away from niche calibers until you start reloading, or have the government paying for your ammo. if you can pick one up cheep enough to get a more commonly chambered barrel for it, I might go for itComment

.45 gap the answer to a question never asked.
Smith &Wesson .40
Sig Sauer .357
Both excellent rounds that have gained acceptance on their performance.
Glock wanted to join the party and came up with the .45 gap, FAIL.

The GAP definitely had good intentions. 45 ACP power in a 9/40 size. Problem is 45 ACP is like apple pie in Americana. Nobody wants a half piece. They want a full piece ;-). And 10mm is quite popular and isn't going anywhere. After all, 40sw is a half piece of 10mm pie. It's a great hunting round, more and more boutiques are loading for it. What would REALLY help it is if mainstream manufacturers put out some full power rounds and mass produced them. 200 grain Federal HST's or Winchester Ranger Talons flying at 1250 fps anyone?Comment

10mm has quite a following. Most of them are obsessed with penis size & wrist strength, but they're out there.
As long as the GAP guys police there own brass so I don't get ahold of it I don't really care what happens to it...Last edited by Fishslayer; 06-11-2011, 10:46 AM."He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.

Stay away from 45 GAP and 10mm.
Stick with 45 ACP, 9mm, .223 and .308
