Dan Wessen 357 w/problem

I just purchased a old Dan Wessen 357 revolver. The pistol is in great shape around 25+yrs old.
The problem it has that it does not hit the primer hard enough in double action to fire the bullet. In single action it works just fine..
Whats up? please help, my guess it's a spring. I'd like a better idea before I take it to a gunsmith..thx John

It could be that someone has changed it to a lighter hammer spring or cut a couple coils off the original one.
The hammer travel distance is usually longer in SA than DA so that is why it has enough power to fire from the SA cocked position....the hammer has more time to get going.
I would start by getting a known-good original spring and trying that.
Another option might be is to see if you can add more preload to the spring that is in there....possibly washers at the base?

Dan Wesson is still in buisness and I hear they still work on these older revolvers, I would contact them.
