    "Figure 8" Shooting?

Was watching a YouTube video linked from another thread

And got to wondering what's the purpose of the "figure 8" shooting? Shoot on the move/GOTX - makes sense. Does the Figure 8 assist in learning to shoot accurately while in motion, or...?

I have no knowledge what-so-ever regarding this but if I had to guess....the chairs are acting more as obstacles. Maybe someone with some real world experience/knowledge can chime in and let us know.

my thoughts. just being able to move and shot smoothly while avoiding obstacles and not taking your eyes off target very much is pretty good skill to have.

I thought I read somewhere that that is the little girl from the movie "kickass" and it was part of her training for the movie, which had a long run and gun sequence at the end...

Problem is, the girl who played Hit-Girl is named Chloe Moretz, and the girl's name referenced in the video title is Mackenzie.

So, no, based on that, I don't think it's the same girl.

Not a instructor but just teaching you to be able to function on the move and to learn how to move your feet and gun seperatly like havin to teach your self to tap your head with one hand while rubbing a circle motion on your tummy at the same time.

Just a mind breaker and teaching you to use your body with out having to think of stepping around stuff and thinking of moving instead of focusing on the target you can move freely in the back of your mind while you have full attention on your sites and surroundings.

I'd guess that the purpose is to practice situational awareness and moving while shooting. It also allows some stress factor to be added.

As for the girl, that's the girl that field stripped the AR and put it back together.(Her father is in USMC, IIRC)

                Yup!

Had a friend who been shooting pistol from benches for years go with me to do some drills. He thought it would be a cake but the first drill he quicky realized that shooting and moving was a diffrent ball game from standing and shooting.

Nice variance on the standard "Box Drill". Good linear movement drill. Nice to see someone else getting shooters to shoot, reload, clear malfunctions all while moving.
It's important to train yourself not to stop to clear stoppages and to reload on the move.

Great training for IDPA or USPSA. I thought at first it might be a Walther P22 (they are known to FTL frequently). I think the snap cap theory might be right, though.

It is snap caps. Theres other videos of her shooting and clearing the gun like it jammed but you see snap caps flying out.

Yea I was going to say it looks more like the AR field strip girl.

Tactical Response teaches fighting on the move. They want people to train our of their comfort zone, hence the Benchrest and range lane shooters. Always keeping your feet moving makes you a " hard" target and gets you off the X. It's great focus training as well, and fun with a rifle.

Yeah, thats what the figure 8 shooting is all about - shooting on the move, getting you out of your comfort zone, etc. I don't know the background of this particular drill, but I was always trained to go to cover while reloading (still on the move of course) and to not cross your legs while shooting and moving (too easy to trip yourself) use a kind of shuffle step while moving latterally. Was anyone here taught differently?

Yea I was also going to say she can detail strip a gun WAY better than she can shoot one haha
