Just bought my first gun!

So after a couple months of being in the market to get my first gun, I finally bought one today!!! I decided I wanted a 1911 and the MC Operator was too hard to find and a bit over my budget so I decided to look for an Loaded parkerized model. Saw one at Turners a couple days ago for their super sale price of $799 but they only had the shelf gun left which was a shame cause it had an NM serial # which I didn't know existed anymore for the loaded line. Their employees also weren't very friendly and clearly didn't care for my business.

I called several other shops and none had any Loaded models. This morning I called Bain & Davis and they said they had one on the shelf and one out back. I went to the store and asked to see the one on the shelf which had a Brazil rollmark. The guy then showed me a brand spanking new one from the back and I was pleasantly surprised to see it was an NM model. He said it just came in yesterday. I decided that I had to get it and he was also able to knock a couple bucks off too. Super friendly peeps there.

I've only got a crappy cellphone pic for now and I can't wait to get it out!!!!! I'm super stoked. How do you guys survive the wait?



I'm planning on ordering a couple Wilson 47D magazines as well as a GI style guide rod and plug. Anyone got any recommendations on what brand is best?

I also need to get a cleaning kit of some kind. Whats the best kit or stuff to use? Also can anyone recommend me a good how-to article or vid on how to properly clean a 1911?

I personally went on YouTube and found the how2. Watched a few videos, and did it. As for cleaning, I got the spray stuff at Walmart. Cleaner and oil ($5 each tall can).

Ya, some FFL are real jerks. I hear every so often Turner's bottom end isn't there and they might close. Wonder why? It's their staff! I don't buy there. I make other match them and buy else where. lol.

Congrats, SliderTactical! You made an excellent choice for a first gun! Sheesh - I wish I had the scratch to afford a 1911 right off the bat when I first got into the shooting sports! Back then anything that wasn't designed by a Russian Colonel was out of my reach.

Go big or go home! I like it! You don't mess around.

As for cleaning, avoid the kits. Too many small parts to loose.

Get a bore snake for the bore, a tooth brush for any small places carbon builds up, a clean soft rag and a bottle of Cleanzoil.

Not only will you clean you gun faster with those, you will do a much better job. Plus the cleanzoil not only cleans it oils the gun. It is great for preventing rust. So your 1911 will out last the rest of the pack.

A lot of cleaners are really harsh. Cleanzoil is not. You can clean your gun in your home. Just lay down a towel under it and go to work. Amazing stuff. Cleans and oils your gun at the same time while adding a protective layer that prevents rust and pitting. I swear by it.

ever heard of chip mccormack power mags? They make a 10 round mag and it works just fine in my rock island tactical....

Awesome first gun! My first was a springer mil-spec and I love it! I would love to get a loaded model!

As for the cleaner, I use ballistol to clean, lube, and protect, and tetra gun grease for the rails. I use a boresnake for the barrel, and patches, a tooth brush, and q tips for the rest of the gun. Mine is parkerized too and the ballistol keeps it looking brand new. Can't help w the gi guide rod and plug, as mine came w those. Congrats
